I have a Connecticut Carry permit, but live part time in NYC. Am I allowed to keep a pistol in my apartment in New York City? Does the Second Amendment cover me here?

Yeah, NYC has their own permits seperate from NY state. They've done just about everything they can think of to keep these permits out of reach of average joes.

so i am not protected under the second amendment or the firearms owner's protection act to keep a pistol in my house?

i grew up i nyc and remember when my father came back from hunting in africa he often kept a rifle in our apartment.

A long gun is different...when I was in my 20's I had a shot gun for skeet, but it had to be "registered" with NYPD with a fee of course. But that was a long time ago, not sure about now with Bloomberg around?

How the heck does a city not recognize the state's permit?

That's like saying your driver's license is worthless because you got it Albany.

Plaxico Burress had a CCP too. Albeit a Florida one and he managed to shoot himself in the leg in a nightclub, but even worse he is spending a year in jail for having a handgun in NYC. Its probably not worth the risk (It sounds like you are employed an have a bit going for you) but I sure would like to see someone with tons of cash and a real stubborn streak to take a case to the supreme court and get the NYC unconstitutional law changed.

I remember reading somewhere that Bloomberg confiscated all the long guns a while back.

NYC is now a dictatorship under the despot BLOOMBERG. You are always welcome to re-join the USA. Vote and vote often.

Isn't the case with Burress a little different as he was actually carrying it in public as opposed to someone just keeping it in their home?

And remember NYC is trying to tax 'out of state residents' as moved away but do a days business in the city and they come after ALL your income...

and lets not forget Boomybergs STRAW BUYERS, now if we could only get him court and convict him for his illegal acts....

Funny how you can be legal in one local/state/region and then crossing a boundary makes you a criminal! I can CC in NY PA, cross I81 into Maryland and I'm committing a crime until I enter Va. :banghead:

The city vs. state gun law difference was not and is not uncommon.

The difference between laws and states on social issues is not uncommon. Look at drugs, sex and marriage.

I remember when the Macy's in Brooklyn sold surplus military rifles and not just yuppy clothes.

No offense, but by now - aren't some of these comments naive? We know the score on differential gun laws and that the 2nd isn't magic wand in implementation.

Ain't NY grand? NYC is even better! And people wondered why I never went to the city more than necessary when I was in upstate. I'm sorry I was such a wimp, I joined the military and got out of Dodge.

All I could ever accomplish was taking people to the range, and engage in casual conversation to try to persuade people to my point of view.

NYC requires a permit for possession of a handgun or rifle. And if you have ammo for a gun that ain't registered to you, you are in trouble if you get busted. NYC doesn't play around, so unless you are prepared to end up in jail, don't bring anything.

GEM has a point in a way, calling some of our comments "naive". But those of us who live in this totalitarian nightmare have an obligation to tell others about what is going on here. I get the idea some of you guys can't quite believe it. That's the way these kinds of unconstitutional systems get started, people don't educate themselves and they do not recognize the seriousness of the situation. Believe me, this state in not the kind of America you take for granted. Be aware of what can happen.

I would be surprised if the Cato institute isn't lining up plaintiffs right now

am i allowed to have a connecticut ccp and also obtain a nyc permit for possession at the same time? i only have a connecticut driver's license and am guessing i would need ny state idea to obtain the permit for possession in new york. is it possible to have identifications issued from two different states?

Skinny - You've asked the same question three times now in the space of an hour or so - twice in this thread, and once elsewhere. Give people some time to read the forums and respond. Posting over and over is just going to waste time and become frustrating.

haha, sorry about my compulsive posting. i did so because i received an email saying that one of my posts had been taken down.

It's cool man. I can understand how it is when you just gotta get something figured out. I just hate to see important posts and stuff get lost by posting too much too quick, ya know?
