There is a facebook page "EDC (Everyday Carry) ČR" where members post their pictures of EDC carry kits. The page is not public and the administrator seems not to approve any foreign members. I though it might be interesting to American gun aficionados to see what people actually carry in one of the two European shall issue concealed carry jurisdictions.

Before I go through the pictures and list particular guns, I'd like to note that there are no restrictions on knives, pepper sprays and telescopic batons, and that these are basically present in almost all EDC picture submissions of the members (in various forms and sizes). Electric paralyzers, although also legal, seem to be much less common. Other than these the typical purse/watches/keys/phone/small torch are usually part of the submitted pictures. Many people also have various small first aid kits and armband paracords and lots of other interesting stuff.

So, here are some of the guns submitted in the pictures of the Czech CC facebook page (without any particular order):

  • Various CZs - P07 (quite a few), Compact D, 100
    Smith&Wesson M&P9c, Shield
    SigSauer 1911 45 ACP Scorpion, P290RS,
    Various Glocks - 26 (quite a few), 42 (quite a few), 19 (quite a few), 17
Ruger LCR (quite a few, various versions), LCP (I've seen only one, LCPs have terrible reputation here)
Taurus 85ul (quite a few), Judge
    Para Warthog .45
Remington 870 SuperShorty (on a sling carried under shoulder), 1911R1
    SW MP 340, 340 PD
    Norinco 1911 .45
    PM 63 Makarov
    Jericho 941 FS

I'd like to note that most submissions are from guys under 30 and that this is probably not the most representative overview of what people typically carry here, but still quite informative.

Czech gun laws: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics_in_the_Czech_Republic

Anything you find interesting among those?

Couldn't get in to the Facebook page and you're right; they wouldn't let me join either. Would have liked to have seen the Remington Super Shorty; definitely not something you see everyday as a CCW.

Interested, but can't access it either. I don't do Facebook....but sometimes I can see a page anyway if it is public. This one must be private.

Thanks for the video and photo of the Super Shorty. Just got notified I have been accepted into their Facebook group. Some of the EDC folks on there look like they're packing out for a trip up Mt. Everest! Lots of cool stuff that people are carrying with them along with their CCW.

Thanks for the information. I really like to hear that other countries allow their citizens to take responsibility for themselves.

All I saw was what the police carried while I was in Prague, which are CZ-75's IIRC.

You do. Most have aluminum alloy compact with rail (P01).

...are we thinking of the same PM-63?

No, it's this one:

Although really you can CC any semi-auto rifle as long as you can conceal it effectively, so I am sure there is some somewhere in the country carrying the semi-auto RAK.

Snejdarek: Thanks.
I found the description of those self-defense shooting and the rulings of different courts very interesting, among other topics included.

We visited Prague around '98 and enjoyed it.
What a shame that most of your central/western "Euro Zone" neighbors are Not so enlightened. They prefer govt. control, for the sake of control itself.

Recently bought my first Czech gun, the superb 82, in the same deal as my first Makarov (EG). What an excellent pair!

@Ignition Override

Thanks for the praise of 82. I hope you will like it. It (/83) is still the service pistol of Slovak Police and military - they are currently in the procurement process to find a replacement.

Was there anything particular that caught your attention regarding the court cases? I will be happy to shed more light on any issues you find interesting.

An amendment that would introduce Castle Doctrine to the laws was just voted down past week in the Czech Republic. I think it could have more chance if the member of parliament who proposed it took more time and effort to publicize and lobby the enactment.

Do you remember anything particular from your trip to Prague in 98? It is always interesting to see how foreigners see own country.

I loved Prague except for the dog feces everywhere on the sidewalks. The people were extremely nice, polite, and genuinely friendly. The scenery was great except that it rained every day. We were there for Christmas and the river was flooding.

Wow! What great traveler review! I can't wait to go. :what: Gonna bring my wading boots, umbrella and plastic doggy bags! :D

After numerous personal trips to Europe, most memories are really hazy and mixed. The old town (Stare Mesto?) near the large square with the very large clock has strong appeal. The ancient Jewish cemetery with overlapping tombstones was really strange. Hradceny Castle and the Charles Bridge make a nice scene, with photo reminders in travel magazines now and then.

The people we stayed with (small village near end of local train line) told us about their strange anxiety After the Soviet forces left the area, with no idea what would happen next. The food seemed similar to German, though somehow different.

We know the rules here at THR: the word Gun must be clearly visible and identifiable...with visibility far less than 500 RVR. If the CZ-82 is less well-known here than the Makarovs, were far fewer 82/83s imported?

I think if someone had asked me to make a list of what I thought was being carried there, my list would be pretty compatable. No real surprises in other words.

A well armed group .

Estonia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overview_of_gun_laws_by_nation#Comparison

They have also pretty good gun laws, even easier access to full auto than Czechs. However, for some reason, they can't carry bullet in chamber (only in revolvers). So they are limited to Israeli carry, but still good compared to the rest of Europe.

i particularly like the pic with three knives.

This is what one of the three knifers wrote: I have Spyderco always in my pocket in the trousers. The small Victorinox is in the backpack, since it has scissors and can opener, and Rescue is also in the backpack because of the frontshield saw and safety belt cutter (useful also for safe cutting through clothes).

Interesting, but why does the Ruger LCP have a bad reputation there?

It's one of THE most popular & reliable .380s here. I pocket carried my LCP for six years until purchasing this Kahr CT380 recently. It holds 7+1:

It has a reputation to become unreliable/break down around 2.000 rounds. Surely, LCP is not meant as a range gun, but still, that is quite a low count. I've heard this from multiple people, including a couple LGSs who have them on sale but still recommend against them.

I bought Kahr CM9 not so long ago and I am very happy with it. Ruger LCR .357 will be probably next in the pocket category. I am also eying ZVI Kevin (in US sold as "Micro desert eagle") - pictured next to LCP - or CZ 92.

Having carried various 1911s over the years I have found that the single action trigger design, along with Condition One carry, worked better for me in terms of accuracy and speed, than the typical DA/SA set-up found on many .380 autos. Still have a Colt Mustang which I use to carry quite often but have worked in a SIG P238 into the CCW rotation as it has easier to acquire night sights on it.
