Guns you like but don't shoot well and vice versa

Some 1911 pattern guns bite my hand preventing good shooting w/o mods. I like the Glock overall concept and the baby Glock concept but Glocks do not seem to perform that well for me and I will probably not buy any more of them.

I have never been very good with derringers or mini revolvers but that probably goes for most people. I do not shoot single action revolvers nearly as well as double action ones but that seems to be mostly a matter of practice and experience.

Thought I was in the same boat as Psyopspec. I bought a used Sig 220- had wanted one for a LONG time. Some wear marks but no dings, rust, etc. I got some Magtech 230gr fmjs & stopped by the range. Running short of time so I was a little hurried. I shot crap out of that thing- 50 rounds. Went home & returned with some winwhitebox. Shot crap again- 100 rounds. All I could think of was all the posts I had read, "Most accurate pistol out of the box I have ever shot" kind of stuff. Really depressed because the more I dry fired & handled it the better I liked it. It was sort of like being married to Catherine Deneuve & finding out she was a man-hating, 24/7/365 bitch.
So I went to the range to shoot my Glock20 with the first ammo I had ever re-loaded, 5 series of ten each loads. I was nailing them all & was so pleased my reloading experience was off to such start that I dug out the Sig and the Magtech and did much, much better. I guess it was just a question of experience and overconfidence- unrealistic expectations- haste on my first outings.

Beretta 96 Inox. It was a gorgeous gun, beautifully made and very difficult for me to shoot well. Wrong shape, wrong trigger. I could do it, but it was way too much trouble to be fun.
I sold it to a friend who loves it and shoots it very, very well.

For many years I justified every new gun purchase with an (expected) dramatical performance increase. Over the years I resigned myself to the fact that there is nothing like an-allround best handgun for me. A lot of guns needed work to reach their full potential.

While I find most handguns accurate enough, the speed I can achieve is related to the amount of practice.

I could never shoot the S&W autos very well but was surprised how accurate I was with an old Ruger P85. The other pleasing and surprising experience came with a Star 30 with a steel frame, I could shoot it as well as a SIG 210-6.

I have yet to fire a handgun that I did not shoot fairly well. However, I shoot Glocks extremely well, yet I do not like them at all.

SIG 229 in 40SW.
I have a 226, 225, and 220. Shoot them well. For some reason I can not shoot as well with the 229. I should love it, it is concelable and packs 12 rounds of 40SW, nothing to sneeze at. For some reason it just does not work for me.
Oh well, will not sell it though.

I loved the look and feel of a BHP but could never make it work well enough for me to carry on undercover duty, so the SW M-39 was the next choice.

The one that really broke my heart was a Colt Python 4"bbl I bought in 1970. Couldn't hit worth a darn with it, so I went back to the SW Mod. 19. There's not a week that goes by that I don't miss it.

Glocks. I really don't like their feel, they don't point naturally for me, they're too brick-like in my hand, and they bruise the heel of my hand when I shoot full power loads. But, probably because I'm concentrating on the above, they are extraordinarily accurate for me.

Commander-sized 1911's. I love the concept, the grip, the trigger, but I can't shoot them right. I'm sure it's user-error; I get lazy and the shorter sight distance gets me.

Glock

I have this problem with Glock. I love the concept, I love the durability, I love the price points, I love reliability...But I just can't get over the trigger feel. It makes my finger numb. Other guys love 'em and shoot them well; me, I can't hit the broadside of a barn with them. So, I love Glocks but shoot and collect other weapons.

What I like most, but can't shoot = Glocks (this is beginning to sound like a broken record...)

I like Glocks, and wish I could stick with 'em, but I just cant shoot 'em worth a crap. Using my natural (and most comfortable) grip, the Glock points high for me, so to get on target (and stay on target) I have to intentionally turn my wrist down. This unnatural grip angle is quite uncomfortable for me, and it gets me very inconsistent results.

What I shoot well, but just don't like = HKs

I know they're actually quite a bit different, but I see HKs as darn near the same as Glocks. Durable, reliable, and accurate, the HKs are great guns, and I shoot them very well. Unfortunately, I just can't seem to like 'em. They seem overly large, are a bit overpriced (by comparison with similar weapons), and they just don't "feel" right to me.
