Fellas, I have purchased a Benelli M2 Tac 18.5" ghost ring model for the express purpose of having the barrel trimmed to 14" after my form 1 is approved of course. Been having a bit of trouble finding a reputable 'smith to do the work as it involves silver soldering the front sight back on.

Some 'smiths don't have the ability/equipment to do the soldering, some are concerned about the chrome bore causing issues, and some are concerned about running afoul of ATF regulations. On another forum I had a thread deleted and was told by the moderator that I was asking someone to do something illegal.

I certainly want to follow all regulations and want the gunsmith to do so as well. I was told by the moderator that a Class 2 manufacturers license was required to shorten my barrel, as the gunsmith is in effect 'taking part' in the manufacture of an NFA firearm. Is this correct? I am able to manufacture my own SBS, but a licensed gunsmith cannot simply shorten my barrel, which is not a restricted item by itself?

Thanks for any assistance guys. Still looking for someone who can perform this work..

A better place to ask this is on http://www.subguns.com . I would think it is fine for anyone to chop down a barrel that will go on a registered SBS.

Was it The Firearms Forum that deleted your post? I was banned from that forum for encouraging legal silencer use.

Drop a line to Adco Firearms. They do A LOT of work on AR's and Garands. They'll be able to give you the dope on working with chrome lined barrels.

[email protected] (the best way to reach them.)
