I just bought an 8lb can of H-335 for a really good price. I previously bought a 1lb can as well, but have never loaded anything with it. I know that it is supposed to be a versatile powder. I have used mostly IMR 3031, H-4895, H-4198, Reloader 7 and Win 748 for these cartridges in the past. What are your experiences with it (H-335) in any or all of the four cartridges listed? You help is greatly appreciated.

I used it in my .30-30 back before I had a chrony, so I don't have any velocity data. It's a versatile powder, like you said. A tad on the slow side for top velocities in the cartridges you mentioned, but still in the ballpark. Most likely to shine with heavier bullets.

It's not one of Hodgdon's "Extreme" powders - powders that are supposed to be more tolerant to hot and cold temps. Hodgdon says this about it on their web site:

"Originated as a military powder, used for the 5.56 NATO, or 223 Remington as handloaders know it. Obviously, it sees endless use in the 222 Remington, 223 Remington and other small cartridges. In particular, prairie dog shooters will find this a favorite, as J.B. Hodgdon has for years!"

It's a ball powder, so it should meter well. I think it'll be a good stallion for your stable.

I've found it an EXCELLENT powder in the 30-30. A max charge(33.0, IIRC) behind a 150 sierra has proven both fast and extremely accurate in my Win 94s.

Also use it in 444 marlin and 223.

I have looked at the Hodgdon site, but wanted some real world experience.

I've used it in .223/5.56, 45/70 35,000 psi loads and in my .458 Lott. Been very happy with the results in all of them. (the .458 Lott is quite the "rush", 500 grs at 2350 fps...like lightin' a rocket off of your shoulder....not a "crack" but a big whoosh of powder ! )
