I was looking for a load for this bullet in 45 ACP. I have been shooting up some Win AC at the start level per Hodgdon.

Want to try Bullseye but a big variation in data. I know there are different tests and procedures as well as swagged vs cast but this much??

Lyman cast has 4.9 to 6.0 gr (max being the most accurate):uhoh:

Alliant lists 4.6 as a max with a Speer bullet.

I have shot 6 grains with a 230 gr bullet and that is pretty stout.

What charge of BE with a 200 LSWC (cast but soft BHN)do you guys use??

I'm currently using about 5.0 gr. Bulleseye with my 200 gr. SWC. If in doubt and choosing between several loads in different manuals, just start with the lowest load. Load a few, and increase charges as you see fit. I like reloading and shooting so If I have to try 4 or 5 different loads to get what I'm looking for, cool!

Per another thread:

Both loads are fully X-Ring consistent off the bench at 25.
Both are pleasures to shoot.

Shoot the lightest that will function the slide.

DUH! You know I looked at that before this thread and only "saw" the measurements!

Hey I am getting older as we write this!;)

I will need to go a little higher as I have a 16lb spring. I do have the Wilson spring kit so I can change them out,and go lower

How does Lyman get all the way to 6.0 grains???

Thanks

4.6g Bullseye functioned a 14# spring/right at 800fps (standard 1911)
You might start there if it will work at 16# before raising the powder.

Bill Wilsons favorite HG#68 load was 5.0 gr Bullseye at oal 1.25-1.26
It has served me very well for over 25 years ;)

4.1 gr of Bullseye at 1.250 OAL using Dardas' LSWC H&G 68 in my Kimber Pro II (4" bbl) is mellow, accurate and cycles consistently with stock spring (22#).

I shoot at about 50 feet (old eyes) been loading 3.5gr of BE under the 200gr lswc, useing well worn 16lb springs. Never been a fan of "full house loads" so this works for me. Out of the four 1911 beaters I shoot, I can keep them at two inches or so, on a good day, mild and accurate and fuction just fine. A plus -- I don`t have to chase my brass. New 14lb springs would probably be just right.
For years befor this, my load was 4grs of BE with fresh 16lb spgs, fuction and accuracy was as good but not better. I tried going up on the charge a few times , but didn`t see any advantage. But that is why we load our own, to get what suits us.
