I just had a look at some recently posted video of the FN SCAR in action. Maybe it's just me, but the HK416 appears to have much less recoil than the FN SCAR-L. Check out the videos yourself and see what you think.

Here's the video for the HK416...

And here's the video for the FN SCAR, both the 5.56 and 7.62 versions...

As one who only has extensive experience with the FN FAL, and limited experience with both the Uzi and HK MP5, I'd appreciate it if someone could give me a breakdown on the differences between their gas piston systems. According to world.guns.ru, the bolt system is similar to the FN Minimi, but I'm not sure whether he's implying that it uses a similar gas piston system too.

Haven't seen the SCAR in person yet, but hoping to be getting my hands on both L's and H's in the very near future. Until then, I don't have a clue as to recoil comparisons and such. I would not draw too many conclusions from video clips.

Recoil is probably the same, or close to the same. From what I've seen, it is easier to compensate for a long full-auto burst than it is to ixnay the recoil on semi-auto mode. FA gives you a constant, continuous recoil force (think jigsaw), while semi-auto (or burst mode) is not continuous. Stance matters, too.

Two hopes:

SCAR L will be rechambered and eventually manufactured in 6.5 or 6.8 ...

and

The US Armed Forces adopts the SCAR family as the next generation of military battle rifles.

Thanks for the comments guys.

I do realize that one can't draw conclusions from the videos, I was just soliciting other opinions because that's how it looked to me.

HorseSoldier, we're looking forward to hearing from you once you've put a few rounds downrange with it.

FWIW I read elsewhere that H&K were kicking themselves in the butt for not entering the HK416/417 into the SCAR selection process. Who knows, maybe other unmentioned issues were involved??
