ok im completely new here, and need some help

i just bought an H&K 91 from a guy at work. its an awesome looking rifle, and i havent shot it yet. heres what i need before then

1.) The bolt seems REALLY hard to pull back. it seems like its stuck, and you cant get any pull on it at all. id like something to remedy this.

2.) the bolt, when pulled all the way back, gets stuck. itll close again, but if you push the charging handle back forward, the handle just moves, and not the bolt. you have to point the muzzle down and pull the trigger for the bolt to close again. whats wrong with it now?

thanks in advance.

Welcome to THR!

Item #1 could be normal or a problem. The bolts are inherently difficult to pull back on that design. But if it's too difficult, that indicates a problem. Is it merely a lot of force (say 40-50lbs) or does it require enormous strength and even hitting the butt on something to make it budge? The former is within normal range, the latter is a problem.

Item #2 is almost certainly a problem.

You might want to consider taking it to a knowledgeable gunsmith regardless of the responses here.

Actually, the rifle should be smooth as buttah to cock (if it's an actual HK91).

Are you sure it's an HK91 and not a Century C91?

The problems you describe are dead-on accurate for the latter.

On the Century C91/Cetmehe charging handle is tough to pull due to the monkeys cutting off the end of the bolt carrier (to make it fit, you see), which reduces your leverage and makes it hard to cock.

The "bolt carrier sticks to the rear" is what happens on the Century C91/Cetme when the monkeys wedge a receiver into a stock that's too tight for it (the receiver is squeezing the bolt carrier due to the stock housing squeezing the receiver).

Quite so, as none of us here are knowledgeable about such things :neener:

no its definatly an h&k 91. ill see if the shop down the road can fix it for me... im really looking forward to using it this summer

You know that's not what I meant... :)

Just that looking at it in person beats any amount of written words if the person reading those words doesn't already have a good idea of what they're looking for.

:)

I have a PTR 91 and sometimes the charging handle is hard to pull back. Esp if I let the bolt slam home on an empty chamber. As far as the bolt carrier sticking/binding not sure. I would pull the buttstock off and see if the the carrier slides free to the back. HK 91s are good quality rifles.

If it's a real HK 91, it should have cost over $1500. They are in high demand since HK dropped them from production.

I had one for over 18 years, the action spring is heavy. The bolt handle works on levering the roller locks open, it's not light, and with the action spring, it takes a bit to pull back. Nonetheless, it should be easy, in a firm sort of way.

The bolt sticking to the rear is wrong, wrong, wrong. The reciever has been tweaked too tight and is grabbing it with too much internal friction. It's easy to check. Take down the rifle and extract the bolt carrier. As it comes out the back, it should slide right out. You can check to see the tolerance of play is consistent the full length of its travel once the trigger unit is out of the way.

There were a lot of parts kits and American made receivers on the market cheap ten years ago, a lot of those were reassembled at home. With a sticking bolt, it has to be asked whether it's really all HK, a kit, a Century, or some banged up POS that got dumped after the youtube video production of it being driven over apparently failed.

Are you 'pushing the charging handle forward' or doing the proper HK slap?

ill see if i can get it to a gunsmith here soon. i have no idea when it comes to these rifles, but hey i can be a learning process too
