Does anyone have experience with an SL8 conversion, what are your impressions? http://alpinetek.netfirms.com/guns/SL8/

Are the parts from Top Notch (mag conversion/grip and stock) well done or is it a "hack job"? http://www.top-notchparts.com/

Does the magazine conversion work well or does it have any problems (feeding)?

Are there any SL8s still available and how much are they going for? (I would look it up but I'm at work and everything is blocked ) :cuss:

What are the chances of getting the real deal (G36) eventually? Is a project like this even worth it?

Thanks

I can't answer your questions about the SL8, but you can check out HKPro and do a search. There should be tons of info. I have one of these rifles and was kind of waiting for the dust to clear before proceeding with any alterations. That has kind of been put on the back burner for now.

The SL8-1 is discontinued, so the supply is dwindling. NIB are about $1000, but they may begin to climb a little soon.

As far as the G36, don't hold your breath. Even if the AWB goes away, HK cannot import anything as evil as the G36. The new US HK plant is not going to be running any time soon, and I would not count on them making a civilian G36 copy anyway.

As stated above, check out HKPRO.com for all your needs. I have the USC conversion from Top Notch and am very pleased with it. I have not done the SL8 conversion, b/c I just use it for precision work. No need for ful capacity mags.

I have heard nothing but good things about the conversion quality.

If you want a semi-auto G36 clone, the SL8 conversion is gonna be the closest thing that a US civilian can get, at least in the near future.

I have heard that the Top Notch conversion kit (to take AR mags) makes the rifle less than reliable. Hiccups are common, and I was advised against it for a "working" rifle. If you just want a rifle that looks awesome and works good enough for range use, go for it. I bought the SL8 before learning this, so needless to say, I was disappointed to hear this news.

I am waiting for the AWB to sunset, so that I can (hopefully) get the Top Notch kit with a folding stock.
