Guys,

I picked up a H&R 258 Handi Rifle II with three barrels for $400 OTD.

Hard chrome finish. One barrel in 30/30, another in .22 Hornet, and the third in 20 Gauge. Fortunately I reload 30/30, .22 Hornet, AND 20 gauge (as well as .357 magnum and .44 magnum.)

Nice condition to with canvas case.

Does anyone know where I could get the barrels in .357 or .44 magnum? Love to add that to the set!

I also hear they once made barrels in .357 Maximum to!

Thanks,

Deaf

Go to the Graybeard Outdoors forum and inquire in one of the H&R sections. Lotta Handi-holics there that traffic in barrels & other assorted Handi bits.

I love my Handi-rifles, have you tried any pointed bullets on .30-30 yet ? You can hopp em up quit a bit in a single barrel............

While they are not listed on that page, H&R has a few barrels left in the pic below;

They were made for the Talo Limited edition run from a couple years ago. The standard 357 and 44 barrels are 22", scope rail, and no iron sights. The Talo barrels are 18& 1/2", Williams Sights, and drilled and tapped for a scope rail.

I picked up my 357, and sent it in to have the 44mag barrel fitted. :D

Thanks. It's an interesting place.

Long ago I did handload pointed 150gr 30/30 slugs to shoot single shot in my Marlin 336.

There is also a place that makes adapters so a .22 hornet barrel can shoot 22 long rifle.

So a .22 lr, .22 hornet, 30/30, and 20 gauge. Now that is a right good setup!

Sounds like the perfect "if you could only have one" gun to me! GBO has forums for almost everything. It's not a happening place like THR but it is a treasure trove of knowledge if you dig through the archives. You have a cool, unique Handi there, glad you're enjoying it.

You will have to try to find the barrels used. H&R will only fit barrels to receivers made after 1999. The Handy Gun 2 I have is mated to the older profiled Topper style barrels. They are much lighter than the typical Handi Rifle barrel. The receiver will accept either but you may need to have some fitting done on the barrel. H&R/NEF receivers/barrels are not drop in and forget like TC Contenders and Encores are. Sometimes you are fortunate and they lock up tight. Used Topper and Handi Rifle barrels in 44 Mag or 357 Mag will likely be blue and not nickel. I think the Topper or Handy Gun 2 with its lightweight and slim profile when matched with a profiled (slim) Topper style 30-30, 357, or 44 barrel is one of the "handiest" hunting rifles ever made.
