I just purchased one in 45-70 too to the range and got the old shoulder thumped pretty hard, I will be working on loads to tame the beast. I purchased this because I was tired of toating all the rifles on trips, I kust sent back to H&R for barrel in .357 magnum, and 30-06 if this works out I plan to purchase a few more barrels. Does anyone have an H&R with mulitble barrels, and how do you like them.

You have to send the frame back for them to fit the new barrel. I too have a .45-70 that I'm planning on getting additional barrels fitted. I'll probably start with a .30-30 barrel and see how I like the set up.

I have a .270 and a .30-30 barrel. The receiver came with the .270 barrel, but the .30-30 fits and shoots fine. So does my 12ga. barrel.

.308, .223, 20 gauge and 50 caliber Black Powder here. Just for giggle and grins,...I am thinking on a 30/30, a .357, a .44 magnum, and a 12 gauge,....maybe....tho I may just have to buy a second receiver to go with the mess too.....

My ideal line up is the 45-70, 30-06, 308, 12 guage fixed modified, 12 guage rifled slug, 410/45 long colt, and the .357 magnum, 50 cal. black powder and maybe the 223.

So far I have the 45-70 on an Sb2 reciever, and the 12 guage fixed/modified, and .357 on the SB1reciever I have a long way to go but its gonna be alotta fun along the way..

I have a 45-70 that i sent in for a "trigger job" and a 22hornet and 243 (heavy bull) barrels. Ive always been happy with the 45-70 and 22 hornet barrels, dont rmember how they shoot but was happy probably around 2". The 243 was showing promiss but had major ejection problems and was given up on. If i was to do it again i would go for a 30-30 or 45-70 with sights and leave it at that. They do better with rimmed catridges

If you have the SB2 receiver you can fit pretty much any of their barrels to it. If you have an SB1 only shotgun and muzzeloader barrels. I have had good luck with their barrels and wish My daughter's Rossi was an H&R. That's what I get for trying something new!

I have one in .243 Win that I cut down and added a recoil pad for the grandkids. It's a fine-shooting rifle and lots of fun offhand, though tends to string shots vertically when shooting from a rest, unless the off-hand is placed under the forend to mimic offhand shooting.
