Saw a Harrington and Richardson bolt action in .300 Win Mag on the rack today (forgot the model number). I thought until recently that H&R only did the break-action singleshots and .22 Revolvers. Anyone have any experience with their bolts?

Back in the mid 60's and thru the early 70's, I bought 3 H&R Ultra Medallists. A 222, 6mmRem, and 308. All are FN actions with crowned heavy barrels, with oil finished walnut stocks with beavertail fore-ends. All will shoot groups of 0.25" at 100 yards.

Although I didn't ever shoot the H&R sporting models, the sporting goods store that talked me into these fine rifles, had several customers who gave glowing testimonials of the sporters accuracy.

If the weapon you are looking at is in good shape, and the barrel is not shot out, it should be an excellent rifle. I have seen plenty of beautiful looking Rem/Win/Ruger rifles that had no blems, but had 3000+ rounds thru them, so beware. Have a competent smith look at it.

I have no interest in a .300, but it was definately a fine looking rifle. Thanks for the info.

I used to have an H&R Ultra in 30'06. It was a very nice rifle, easily surpassing most current production rifles in quality. I would buy another.

h@r made excellent training rifles, for the military , in 22lr. you can still get them at gunshows, and through CMP, but they will cost you.
