I have always used H110 for hot 44 loads.
Today I was loading out stuff and trying to use up odds and ends to reduce clutter.
One of the odd ends was the tail end of a pound of Lil'Gun. Hodgdon's website shows it having a little bigger range of usable charges, and more velocity than my dear old friend H110.
Has anyone used Lil'Gun extensively in 44Mag? (240gr)
Is there a downside I have yet to encounter?

I loaded out both of remnants of the Lil'Gun and my H110. I am not sure which one I will replace.
Initially I bought the Lil'Gun for a 50Beowulf. We haven't played with the 50 in a few years, and are unlikely to shoot it much.

I have read and heard that lil gun burns hot and can lead to excessive wear on top strap and throat. I use it for 44 mag carbine loads and haven't had any problems. Also for good 218 Bee loads but that is off topic.

H110 in the carbine and 800-x in the revolver. I can get the same velocity as 23.5 gr of H110 with 14 gr of 800-x in a 6.6-inch revolver with no muzzle flash, and less blast and recoil. In the Carbine the H110 gets about 150 fps more velocity.

Lil'Gun would be a great powder instead of just a good one if it didn't generate the excessive heard it does.

H110/W296 has a narrow charge range and excessive flash but I used it until 300-MP came along. Buy one pound of 300-MP and give it a try. I think you will like it. It is very similar to H110/W296 with less flash and no need for a magnum primer.

I use lil gun for some 22 Hornet loads. For a 7.5" barrel 44 magnum H-110 with 240gr bullets works very well for me.

I found for me and the calibers I load for, that the best thing to do with my left over Lil' Gun was fertilizer. The pros never outweighed the cons in my book.

I like Lil'gun in 450 Bushmaster under lighter bullets 200-240 gr. bullets. I had Barnes 200 gr XPB going 2600 fps from my 20-inch 450 Bushmaster. Not that pleasant to shoot but impressive ballistics for 450 Bushmaster.

I've also read many reports of topstrap flame cutting in revolvers, so I've never tried it there. But for non-revolvers, it works very well. I get a slight velocity increase over H110 in the .44 mag Desert Eagle. I've also gotten noticeably higher velocities from Lil Gun vs. H110 in a .357 Maximum rifle.
