H414 and H380

Love H414/WW760 especially in .243 Winchester and pretty well in 30/06, both using mag primers. Stuff meters like silk if that matters, great load density, and I consider it my "Ball 4350".

I just loaded some 243's a couple days ago with H414 and 100gr flat based Hornadys.
Also used it in my 6.5x55 with light 100gr Hornadys. Of course CCI Mag primers with ball powders.
Ive never used H380 though.

As stated, both meter great.(as have all the "H" ball powders I've used)
H414 is one of my (if not "the") go to powder for .243 & .270. Have friends that swear by it in other /06 cases as well.
Have loaded more than a few rounds of H380 for .22/250 & .220 Swift with no complaints there either.(all 55 gr bullets)
As far as dislikes? I can't come up with any,and I'll be surprised if you find many that do.

Hmmm, I shoot the .243 & .270, I might have to try the H414 in them, been using the H4831SC, I just bought some H414 to try out in the 22-250, I'll have to check when I get home but I'm pretty sure Ken Waters liked the H414 in his writeup in Pet Loads on the 22-250.

I've used the H380 for 90gr. .270 loads, not too impressed with the results, having a hard time using it up.

Sounds like a perfectly reasonable excuse to buy another gun. You can't let that powder go to waste. :)

Used to use them both years ago in my 22-250 found them both very temperature sensitive. When Varget came out in the 90s went over to it instead. Varget was much more consistent with velocity and accuracy than either H380 or H414 for me.

In my .22-250, I use H-380 behind Sierra 52gr SPBT HP "Match" bullets.
At 40 grs H-380 shoots about the same groups as that bullet being pushed by 36grs of IMR 4064. When warm out...and they are all good groups.

When cold the 4064 stays good...while the H-380 groups loosen up a tad.

I use H-414 in about anything that I can get data for. I frist tried it in 30-06 in an old Woodsmaster. That old Woodsmaster was shooting 1 inch groups, and I had never been able to do it befor, with that gun. Works great in Dillon powder Measurers

Great Stuff
