What are you guys & gals using for a quick access handgun safe?

I bought a ADG Secure Vault Electronic Gun Safe (about $70.00 @ Gander Mtn) and I thouht it was fine. Now It does not open 100% with the 4 diget security code.

I have only had it about a month. This is not acceptable to me. I need to replace it with a model that works 100%.

What are you using.

BTW, I have kids and will not leave a gun unsecured.

V-line looks pretty good for simplex locks...

Titan Gun Vault is cool too, it has a holster inside and puts the gun in your hand when you open it, also a simplex lock, and comes w/ various mounts to mount almost any position, and you can get extra brackets to put in house or vehicle, if you want to move it from one place to another for a trip or whatever... http://www.titangunvault.com

What happened to Mossberg's handgun safe. It used to look pretty cool, but haven't seen one for awhile. Still being made?

If just for security from kids you could put a key lock on the drawer of the bedside table. For fast access, I rigged by bedside drawer by drilling a hole though the bottom of a decorative groove on the side of the cabinet into the drawer. A small nail or straightened paperclip inserted secures the drawer and a bit of black magic marker on the nail head makes it more difficult to see. The nail head or bent-end of a paper clip nestles deep in the groove, but can be fished out with a finger nail so you have quick access. That way the obvious key lock on the front can be left open, but someone pulling on the drawer will think it is still locked, while you can get into the drawer quickly if you need to. I would key lock the drawer in the morning and unlock it at night leaving the side "pin" in place.

I've had a GunVault for six years, and it has always functioned 100%.

It opens instantly in the dark with no key.

I recommend you keep the combination simple, though. At first I used a fancy combination, with double numbers (two buttons pushed simultaneously).
I found I would sometimes fumble the double-button entry, so I switched to a simple combination, and have had no problem since.

To repeat I STRONGLY recommend the GunVault.

A big +1 for GunVault. I have the Deluxe. It fits 2 pistols, spare magazines, and has a whole extra shelf for some valuables. It open every time and very quickly - I can be out of bed and have my gun in my hand in about 3 seconds. My combination is 2 keys pressed 3 times - beep, beep, beep and the front panel FLIES open revealing a pistol grip. It can also bolt to something more sturdy to keep a thief from taking the whole thing.

I have one made by Phoenix. It mounts between wall studs (typically in a closet) and is almost flush. Around 1" protrudes from wall surface.

This model has an electronic keypad and a backup key lock (in case of failure of electronics, or a dead battery). We keep the key locked in another safe.

Two handguns of reasonable size can be stored on the door in Velcro-attached slide holsters. Shelves store additional items, like a flashlight.

This one is easy to use and I've never had any trouble with it.

I've had a DAC Sport Safe from WalMart online for over a year. No problems with it and I don't think you can beat the price.

Just a question...where do you mount the gunvault? That looks like a pretty bulky item (I know, it's a safe, what do I expect). But I was just thinking, if I want to get to the gun quick, where can I put it without having it in plain view.

You can't mount this one under the bed because the keypad is on the top. Can't mount it on any visible wall because it's a monster. I can only think of the closet which isn't lending itself to "quick access". Any ideas?

The only negative comment about the GunVault I can make is that it is loud when it opens, even when padded - the spring-loaded door is...shall we say...authoritative. Otherwise, it's a good product.

Not a member of DefensiveCarry.com. That link went to a login page. What subforum was it on? And what was the name of the thread and/or your user name (yeah, asking a lot aren't I:)) Just trying to know what to look for when I try and hunt it down.

Was planning on buying one when the tax refund gets in (have a 3.5 year old and a 1.5 year old that are only getting older )

I have the basic one-gun GunVault and it works perfectly every time. The only caution I would give is to remember the default combination, which is pressing each of the four buttons in order from left to right. If your power source fails, and the batteries run out, it will revert to the default combination until you reset it. So in an emergency, if you enter your personal combination, and nothing happens, just press in 1,2,3,4 and it will pop open. I wanted a small safe that can sit on a shelf in my dresser for almost immediate availability, but with the safety of having a loaded firearm in a secure place. I have six small grandchildren who run through my house and could not even consider an unsecured firearm. I think the GunVault is the perfect compromise at a reasonable price.
