Handgun Ammo Shortage?

Wal Mart ammo

I was in a Wal Mart in Fort Worth TX yesterday and they had no handgun ammo. There was some long gun ammo but a sign stated that you could only buy 2 boxes.

On Friday I was at a shooting range and they said that they did not know when they would have additional handguns for sale. However they did have a full supply currently for sale.

CCI told my gunsmith they were 9 million primers behind on orders.

Not only are primer going to ammo makes but the local public. So I am sure other primers makes are having the same problem.

With people stocking up on ammo, it also effects the primers available to reloaders.

Yeah, I was talking to the guy behind the counter and Wal-Mart and he said both his WM and the other down the road sold 5500 rounds of 22 in just a couple of hours.
Thats only ten bulk packs. Does not sound like a lot to me.

I can't find 7.62 x 39 unless I buy corrosive case of 1260 rounds for $420.00 w/Tax. I know about $16.99 for a box of 20 Remington UMC 7.62x39 at Dick's. None at BassPro. About the so called ammo shortage. I LOT OF PEOPLE are newbies in CCW classes. Full classes all the time. I welcome them to our family of 2nd Ammenment rights. I hope we don't get too trigger happy when the SHTF. I believe it will if Obama can have a paramilitary for himself. Watch,Listen,Learn. If half of America knows we're in trouble. They are taking precautions to stock up. Even the Boy Scouts said to be prepared.

I am curious as to how much capitol it would require to start a small business making components, be it one or several components like brass cases.

America has historically risen to the needs of the many in troubled times.

I've noticed for a while now that midway has been out of stock on a lot of ammuntion...most of it, and a lot of it says "no back order". I ordered a box of Buffalo Bore 126 grain JHP's for my 357 from my gun shop about a month ago and not a word yet....I gotta start reloading. And besides ammo being sold out everywhere, the stuff thats available is costing more...I bought a box of 20 Corbon 44 mag's (260 grain BCHP's) last month for $44 &change...yikes.

Just got a call to pick up some primers from a local resource. I had placed the order 2-3 weeks ago. They just happened to get in the exact brand that I had requested, and it was my place on the back order. Ordered a full case of SP, LP, LR, SR, and got all but the SR. So, call that 15,000 of assorted. Mostly they went to a friend & his brothers who didn't have as many as they would have liked, but I kept 1M of LP and SP to augment my stash. This was in NE Ohio.

I was surprised yesterday when I breezed through the local WallyWorld on the way to get some odds and ends and saw two boxes of 100-round 9mm Winchester WB just calling out my name on the ammo shelf.

There was no .380 ACP, .38 Special, .32 ACP, or much of anything else (well, they did have two boxes of .25 ACP), but the 9mm was a welcome sight, indeed.

I don't think it's an indication of things loosening up here. I just think that it was a matter of luck and god timing. In the past three months, I've stumbled on 5 boxes of 9mm now; during that time, I haven't seen any .380.

A couple days a go, I called the gun shop up, and asked to order 2 boxes of magtech 357 mag 158 grain SWC ammo....he said he'd put them on order for me, but it would probley take a while, &that he'd been having a hard time getting any magtech ammo at all. I've also had a box of buffalo bore 357 mag 125 gr JHP's on order for a couple months--I really need to learn how to handload.

I live in a small town in Northwest Georgia.

I used to live in East Ridge, TN just over the border from the Ft. Oglthorpe, GA & Ringgold, GA area; if this is your area, then a trip into Tennessee might prove fruitful to ya; there's a shop on the north side of the Tennessee River called Darr's Shooting Supply that always had a decent supply; there's a few more around there, but I can't remember the names/locations; Darr's sticks out since I used to stop there to resupply before heading out to the public range in Prentice Cooper state forest; I do recall 2 shops on the north side that have indoor ranges...hope this helps

BTW: southcentral PA has been hit very hard with the Obama crunch; one bigger shop stopped wholesale orders to other dealers and another has put a 3 box limit on ammo purchases; Gander Mountain, Bass Pro Shop, WalMart, Dick's are pretty much barren or keep knocking prices up on old stock that doesn't move anyway

Dunn's Sporting Goods Paducah, KY

Whittaker Guns West Louisville, KY (No. West Louisville is NOT part of Louisville. It's 100 miles west.)

Uncle Lee's Greenville, KY.

All have reasonable quantities and are willing to ship.

Bought Federal .22LR 40gr for $13.00 a brick within the last couple weeks.

Now I'm gonna go shoot it all up before I unload my last couple of .22 rifles.

Our local UPS driver informed us on Friday, that the ammo shipments have really dropped off in the last week, maybe the jerks are finally running out of money. Hopefully this trend continues.

I'm desperate for .380's. A month ago it wasn't a problem, now all the sudden, I get laughed at when I ask about them. A kid that works for me sold me 100 FMJ's and 50 HP for $25 since he didn't have a .380 anymore. I wanted to hug him. At least I have a 40sw, you can at least FIND them, although the prices are going up. I don't know exactly what's going on, but I hope everyone calms down soon.

Ammo is pretty much hit or miss down here south of Houston. It's out there, but either a) you have to luck into hitting one of the big box stores right after they stock the shelves after getting a shipment or b) you have to hit one of the gun shops that has jacked up their prices to the point people aren't buying more than a box or two at a time just to have something to shoot.

I've taken to backordering online and just waiting my turn. I don't let my stock go down past a month's supply and haven't run out yet.

That's Odd...

I am in Northern Virginia, just outside of DC (Obama's new home) and we don't seem to be low in supply. I wonder if this is a regional thing? I noticed an increase in price, but that was around the time that the war started.
