Handgun Competition Rules In Ohio

I am hoping someone here can I help me. I am interested in doing some handgun competitions. I was wondering if competitions in Ohio allow someone above the age of 18 but under the age of 21 to use a parents handgun for competition. If so does the owner of the handgun have to be at the competition or can you have anyone with you that can legally own a handgun. I apologize if this is a stupid question but I have never done any competitions and am very interested. Thanks in advance for any help.

If you are over 18 I dont know of any rules that would preclude you competing.

However, I dont know your state laws on you being in possession of a handgun traveling to and from the competition.

That is why I would have another adult legally allowed to own one such as an uncle. I was not sure if there were any rules about being a certain age to compete.

I don't know about Ohio law, best to have a parent along, Unk will probably do well enough.

As far as the match, you are classed as an adult. After all, you can join the Army.

What kind of "competitions?" There are many different events.

I am not sure yet. I am still looking into the different events so that I can figure out which would be best. I would be using my parent's FNH FNS-9.

FNS-9 is a pretty plain jane pistol that would do fine in USPSA Production or IDPA SSP. You'll need at least 3 mags for IDPA. For USPSA the gun would be optimal in Production where you really should have 5 mags, but if you've got 3 you could still compete in Limited (the gun won't be as competitive there, but you'll still likely have plenty of fun).

Neither require that you be 21. You may need to bring someone else along, though I doubt they'd bat an eye if you're 18. Most of the parent-accompanied group that I see are younger (13 and up).

Thanks for the info I will look into those. I have three 17 round magazines that I could use and may order a couple more while I still can. I am 19 so I would hope there wouldn't be much of a problem with someone only a couple years away from being 21.

Only a couple of days would make a difference if the government agents wanted to hassle you.

Regarding to that comment I was referring to the people at competitions worrying about me being under 21 and and actually caring. As far as the government is concerned I completely agree and I would definitely have someone with me that will be able to transfer the firearm. I don't think being 19 will be a problem though since there are junior divisions.

As I said, you are way out of Junior for any match I know of. You will compete with the (other) adults and nobody will think anything about it.
Just beware of the legalities of a teener going around with a pistol.
