I've got a line on 3 possible handguns and am having trouble deciding.

1. SR45-Would take 6 weeks to order, but costs $398. I'm okay with the 10 round capacity since it is a .45 and love the SR serious of pistols. However, holsters and track record are minimal.
2. M&P .40-Same weapon I'm issued for work, but am not allowed to carry it off duty. Price is 398 with reg. sights or $450 with nights sights. Comes with 3 mags. Love the gun, very accurate with it. Don't own a .40 right now.
3. Gen 4 19 with 3 mags for same prices as the M&P. Don't really care for the glocks in anything other than 9mm. Its the quintessential handgun in a lot of peoples opinions. Comes with 3 mags, and I already shoot a lot of 9mm.

I currently own a CZ 75 phantom in 9mm and a STI Spartan 1911 in .45. The smith or glock would require transfer fees due to be shipped from out of state. All brand new.

What do you guys think?

Go shoot them, or examples of them, and see which one you shoot best. Also, intended purpose might be a usefull tidbit in decision making.

As much as I like Glocks and wish I had a 19, I would buy the M&P. There's nothing better than training with what you depend on to stay alive.

Get the m&p .40, and add a new caliber to your collection. And you already know you shoot it well.

Why cant you carry the M&P off duty? That is the blue lable price for a glock, so I would guess that you are in law enforcement. That is a strange policy, but I can see where if you cant carry your duty weapon off duty it would somewhat minimize the department's liabilty if you were involved in an off duty shooting. I just never seen it go that far though. What about while in transit to your job, can you carry it? I like glocks, but not so much by choice. That is what we are issued, and we only have a few pistols listed as authorized off duty carry weapons. In your case I would go with the M&P

Can carry in transit. I work probation and we get babied a lot. Policy was supposed to change, but they just made it to where we could take it to a range to practice now. Its really depressing. However, I am allowed to carry my personal weapon without any restriction.

The ruger price is from a ffl holder who is a friend of my brother law. The other two prices are blue label prices, and that is why they come with 3 mags.

Then my suggestion would be a m&p subcompact if you can find one. It will be easier to conceal off the clock, and can be used as a back up while on it. If your policy changes to where you can carry issued weapon you wont have to identical guns. They both have the same controls. I carry glock 22 on duty and 27 off, same gun only smaller. Think of it as the baby M&P. By the way I worked probation for a while also. Fun Times

Not allowed a back up, of any kind. I carry a fullsize off duty all the time. I actually prefer it over a smaller gun.

Yes, it does seem it will be "fun" Lol.

I would go this way also. I like both sizes of the M&P, but would go with the small one so you can carry it for now.
