Sorry for the new thread:eek: But I decided to expand my view on what handgun to get. It will be a range,rabbit/coyote hunting, and home defense gun.
Here is my NEW list.
-Smith & Wesson M&P 40cal. Black with rail $450
-Used Glock 17 ported barrel gen 2. $429
-Used Glock 21, 2 mags, gen 2, $489.09
-Used Glock 17 w/ box & 3 mags gen 3, $449
-Stoeger Cougar 9mm/40 cal, $399.89
-Used Sig P229 40cal, made in Germany, $450
What is the Price on a new Glock 20 or any new Glock? about $499?
Any more suggestions would be nice. Has to be under about $520.
Thanks

I would go with either the G17 3rd gen. or the Sig 229. If you have plans to conceal it, I would go with the 229, but for just a range/HD gun, I think the Glock has a lot going for it. Though price wise, you're about average for the G17, but the price for the 229 (assuming it is in good condition) is pretty good.

A new G20 will probably be a bit more that $500. I know in the shops around here the 10mm/.45 framed guns usually go for more than the 9mm/.40 framed guns.

Out of that list, I would pick the Glock 17 3 mags gen 3 $449. The standard new retail price on Glocks is $499.

Personally, I'd pick the Walther PPQ; got mine for $482 shipped to my FFL. But to each his own.

You asked about coyote and rabbit. How close are you going to get to the coyote? Unless you are going to make consistent head shots on a rabbit, you are going to make a mess with the 9mm. You do plan on having Hasenpfeffer I assume?

I suggest you get a long gun. That is another topic.

Just a heads up that you might want to shop around on the prices Eddie. cdnninvestments.com currently has M&P's for 425, but then you do have to have it shipped and pay for an FFL transfer, so it might be a wash if you don't have a friend with an FFL.

Walther ppq. Love mine and so does everyone that has shot it and handled it.

Never mind the coyote hunting:banghead: don't know why i put that. Thanks for he info. Are there any problems with any of these guns, that i should know about? Thanks

If the 229 is in good condition for $450, I'd take that in a heartbeat. Otherwise I'd go with the new Cougar for $399. They're nice pistols and a real value.

Thanks for the input. I have narrowed it down to the, 3 gen glock 17 w/ 3 mags, Stoeger Cougar, and Sig P229. Any of these guns have problems?

I picked up a Cougar on Dec 31 and put 500 rounds through it in January in two range sessions, no issues. 1st session only 150 rounds, that's all I had, 2nd 350. I have only used cheap ammo, WWB and Monarch brass from Academy sports, it's their store brand and no failures with either brand. Mine came with 4 mags at the $399 price so that was a bonus. So that gets my vote.

I heard that the cougar was made by Beretta, then Stoeger got the machines and made them? So same gun different name?

I don't think any of those guns have problems. You probably need to get your hands on these and see how they fit you. If you aren't going to carry it, then in my opinion, your options are much more open.

For home defense, I prefer something as simple as possible since you may need to grab it barely awake. I use a Glock for home defense for that purpose. My Taurus 24/7 Pro Long Slide 9mm is GREAT for the range, but I don't want it next to my bed at night because of the safety; but then again, maybe someone would WANT a safety on their bedside weapon. It's all up to you!

When it comes to carry and/or home defense, you can and should be as picky as you can be.

Out of the final three you list I know that the Glock 17 (at least most Gen3) and P229 are rock solid. Can't say I have any experience with the Cougar.

If it was me I'd get a brand new G17 Gen 3 with 2 mags. It's only $50 more, no holster wear, the mags are brand new, no issues or surprises. Glock mags are inexpensive and you can always get another one later. A new CZ75B is also a great idea if you like an all steel gun.

I tend to think that you are looking for the impossible. Given the range of expected duties you most likely described a medium or large frame revolver like a S&W 686 with a 4 or 6 inch barrel. The way the question is framed is like saying you are looking for the perfect boat to take bass fishing, flats fishing, deep sea fishing, scuba diving and water skiing with the occassional run down a mountain stream.
