I've been a member here a short time reading posts, but this is my first.
I have a Sig 9mm among other smaller handguns and am looking to add another firearm. I've narrowed down to 3--

Smith & Wesson M&P45 (45 cal) for $485 minus $50 rebate= $435
Glock 21 (40 cal) for $460
Glock 22 (45 cal) for $395

The larger 45 is not a necessity for me and all the guns feel good in my hand. I'm stuck on making my decision and appreciate any opinions or advise.

I'm not personally familiar with any of those, but maybe if you tell us what you want to use the gun for, some of the other folks here can help you.

I know it's not on your list, but why not another SIG in .40 S&W or .45 ACP. That would let you keep the same manual of arms and transition all your training / practice with the old gun to the new gun.

The M&P is as reliable as a Glock (flame suit on), it's American made, has a lifetime warranty and the trigger can be tricked in to a really nice one for just a few bucks.....at least nice for a DAO/Striker fired plastic gun.

YMMV

Sorry I switched the calibers by mistake when i added them next to the model.

I plan to use it for range shooting, home defense, casual use.

I considered another Sig, but they are all so much more expensive than these 3.

I vote for the Glock 21 SF. ( short frame) It fits many shooters hands better than the standard 21 including mine. The Glock 21 also has more of a manageable recoil IMO. This is because the 45 ACP recoil seems like a push. While the 40 S&W's recoil seems more snappy. The M&P line is also excellent, but Glock has more after market parts if that matters. You really can't go wrong with any of them. Happy shooting! :)

I prefer the S&W M&P just because of the fit in my hand. This isn't about the grip angle...I'm OK with either...but I find the G21 just too wide to be comfortable in my hand.

Apex Tactical has very reasonably priced trigger parts for the M&P that make the trigger outstanding

I favor the M&Ps. speedshooterspecialties.com has a great selection of aftermarket and factory parts including the aforementioned Apex Tactical trigger enhancement parts (hard sear and ultimate striker block).

All of those are good options. The ultimate decision will be up to you and your preferences.

All of those would make good range and HD guns. Casual use will catch them though. I take casual use as carrying. All of the pistols that you mentioned are full sized service pistols which will make them harder to conceal.

All of the models that you mentioned do have compact models. The M&P 45 has the M&P 45C. The Glock 21 has the Glock 30 and 36. The Glock 22 has the Glock 23 and 27. These models still offer performance, but in a smaller package.

If you wish to stick with 9mm, I recommend you look at the Glock 19. If you get a chance, check out the Glock 21 SF.

Good Luck.

I'd advise to get the one with the cheapest ammo if you're at all like me and like to shoot.
And neither the .40 or the .45 is particularly cheap.

*le nod*

Go with a 30 or a 36, they are small and light enough especially the 36, to carry without much hassle. And the 45 just shoots better IMO in any glock pistol. The 40 has a twist when fired, "I had a 23 and a 27" and much prefer the 45 or the 9 in any size, some folks don't mind it, the 45 has more of a push back rather than a twist.Or if you haven't tried the 10mm try the 29, that is just a powerhouse pistol, but ammo is more money.
