Handgun in car in Nebraska and Wisconsin?

Howdy all,

I'm going on a road trip to the Black Hills in two weeks, and will be driving up to South Dakota from Texas. I'd like to bring along my new Ruger P95. I've got a Texas CHL which I know is honored in Oklahoma, Kansas, and South Dakota; but not in Nebraska. What are the rules for transporting a handgun in the car in Nebraska? Some states consider the car an extension of the home and so don't require a CHL there. Can it be left loaded in the central console, or must it be unloaded and stored in a locked container in the trunk?

Then, I'm swinging east to visit family in Wisconsin. Minnesota is fine, but no CHL in Wisconsin, so I'm assuming that the gun would have to remain locked in the trunk there. Is that right?

I assume that the rules about national parks haven't changed yet. It will be coming in with me.

I am not sure what you meant by the above. Carrying a firearm in a National Park is generally illegal until February 22, 2010.

I've read some threads mentioning that a handgun must kept visible in the car in Nebraska (cannot be concealed). Ok for it to be loaded?

I would really think twice about leaving a firearm in a motel unless you have some kind of lock box to secure it in

The law in Wisconsin is this:

167.31(2)(b)
(b) Except as provided in sub. (4), no person may place, possess or transport a firearm , bow or crossbow in or on a vehicle , unless the firearm is unloaded and encased or unless the bow or crossbow is unstrung or is enclosed in a carrying case.

167.31(1)(b)
(b) "Encased" means enclosed in a case that is expressly made for the purpose of containing a firearm and that is completely zipped, snapped, buckled, tied or otherwise fastened with no part of the firearm exposed.

I can't find the law in Nebraska that makes it illegal to conceal a loaded firearm in a vehicle (obviously concealed on the person is illegal), but I would trust opencarry.org that it is in the law somewhere.
