I am lookin gfor a handgun rack for the shelf(s) of my safe. What do you use, if any? Where did you get it? How much did it cost. My needs are for at least 8 handguns now and obviously more to come.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Thanks

I got one of those desk file sorter-seperator things at Office Depot and put it in my gun safe. I am referring to the kind that have several vertical slots. Each slot can hold one pistol vertically. It saves a lot of space inside the safe compared to having the pistols lying flat.

I will now duly track down Primers and rob him blind, kill his dog, keep his daughter out past curfew and will him to get really bad athlete's foot, all of which I'm able to do because he foolishly posted a completely non-identifying picture of his safe on the internet.

:neener:

I've got a setup similiar to what primersinmyshoe is using but they're not as nice. I think they're $13 at midwayusa.com I'm happy with them but they're not as pretty as the one's above.

Have a good one,
Dave

Hello, I bought mine at Cabelas and they are made by Browning, rubber coated, hold 6 pistols, and I believe they were $14.99.

Primersinmyshoe,

If I was greeted by that when I opend my safe, I'd break out into a grin every time.

I have a homemade 14 handgun rack on the shelf of my safe, It took about two hours to build from two 4’ long x 4” wide boards.

I wanted it to be a wide as the interior of my safe would allow (28” wide), I then did the math on how many I handguns I could put in the rack evenly spaced without them being to close together.

I use the door of my safe to hang pistol as well.

For the handguns on the door I used a type of spool pegs, I bought most of them years ago from an arts and crafts store, if I remember right, at the time they came in a little plastic bag with 12 or so per bag and they didn’t cost much, not long ago I went to buy a few more and they came in a little bag of 3 for $0.99.

My safe has a backing plate behind the fire liner on the door so pegs can be screwed in (there was even a factory peg kit but I didn’t like them), the pegs are spaced for each handgun, I used washers behind some to space them out as needed with certain handguns and on a few I cut the lip of the spool off in some places to clear the front of the trigger guard, each handgun has to be lifted up from the muzzle then pulled out.
Some of the handguns have been on the door for 8 years and I have yet to have any problems with wear on the pistols or have any fall off, they fit very solid.

Damn you Gixerman1000! ;)

After looking at your setup for a while, I have finally broken down and set up some wodden spools like yours for my safe and damn does it look good and work well. Thanks for the inspiration. :)

I will post a picture tomorrow, but I did it in one of those Sam's club winchester safes. If anyone is planning to try this on one, feel free to get in touch with me before you do, as I can help you avoid some of the challenges of installation.

I saw what Gixer did in a previous post of his a month or two ago and decided to use it. It works darn well, just don't slam the safe door. Any Michael's will be able to help you with the spools, I think I used 10-32 screws about 2-3 inches long (with washers obviously).

Save your money on those expensive racks. All you need is a 3/8" dowel rod and some 1/4 or 1/2 scrap wood. Drill holes in the wood and insert dowel rods. Set it up to hold the guns in a position like Gixerman's rack. You need one rod about 1" high and the other about 4" high and 3" back, but make it to fit your safe/collection.

Mine is about 18" wide and will hold 10-12 guns comfortably. It will also hold anything from a P3-AT to a Ruger Super Redhawk. I put a third piece of wood in the middle for additional support. The whole thing took maybe 1/2 hour to make and cost unter $1.00. Looks good too.

PM me for a photo.

The racks allocate too much space per hand gun, I get about twice as many on a shelf by simply cutting a piece of foam to fit vertically a the rear of the helf and then insert the guns upside down so they sit on the sights muzzle forward, grips just touching each other and the foam at the rear which keeps them from falling over easily.

Much cheaper too.

I took some ideas from Gixerman and went to a friend who owns a wood working sales business and came up with these handgun racks. I need to take better pictures but you can get the general idea.
