Nothing speaks freedom like exercising the right to shoot handguns over the holiday weekend, right? We started a few days early, as my friend Bob and I get to shoot periodically on his rotating day off (when I can arrange my self-employed time off), and Wednesday found us both with a .22 and a couple of single action big bores. Bob has a later style Colt .22 auto, kind of a space-age looking gun with a rib. I had just gotten my Colt Diamondback back from Colt (minor tune up), and we shot some swinging steel @ 25 yards in my backyard. Then some concussions came from my left as Bob had switched to the Ruger Blackhawk .357 with full loads, and later I had to dust off my Ruger .44 Magnum Blackhawk, also with full .44 Mags. I fired a full box of 100 .44's, and maybe 200 .22's. We retired for the customary coffee and Bailey's afterwards, jsut sitting and enjoying the clear skies and moderate temperature for the day here in Ohio. On Friday, I waited until 4:00pm to make my way out to a formal range that I belong to and wring out a recently acquired CZ75 "Pre B Short Rail", made in 1977. It made me nervious to have and shoot such a beautiful gun, but you only live once, so one should enjoy life. I brought some FN berdan "bulk commercial" ammo that I had bought about 5 years ago and have been hoarding. It is so reliable and accurate, I use it for special occasions. It functions in every gun I own, and I don't have to pick up the brass! This CZ is what they all should be; accurate, well balanced, and beautifuly finished. I also brought my Springfield 1911A1 .45 (older blued version, with a few modifications), and probably shot 50 through the CZ and 70 through the .45, at both small silhouette targets and an empty Pepsi can. Recoverd all but one .45 brass, but found a good .380 case, so I guess I broke even. I walked away amazed at the CZ, and satisfied with my performance with recent, almost constant companion, the Springfield. I babied the CZ in a heavy flannel bag, because of its flawless finish, and strapped the 1911 on my belt. It was only Friday, so I still have Sunday and Monday to "shoot for freedom". I hope you all get to get your guns dirty, have fun, and share it with the rest of us.

That is one sweet looking 1911!

Where I live, I could shoot all the time in my yard legally, but the neighbors are close enough that the noise is a problem, so I don't shoot much.

With the fireworks going off in quantity tomorrow evening, that will be a non issue so you can be sure I'll be firing off a few in celebration! (safely, of course)
