Most of the pictures I have seen of gun safes show the handguns stored either in a rack, in a door bungee cord system or just sitting on the shelves.
I rarely see them in the original plastic cases just stacked on the shelf.

Is there a reason for this?

Is it strictly a space management issue? Maybe it's for easy access when you need them? Display purposes? Or is it a comibination of reasons?

Thank you.

Well, its not good to store pistols in those cases long term - the foam sucks in moisture. I think most people store the cases elsewhere for space considerations...

I'm not aware of any manufacturer that uses the spongy foam in their boxes. Most use styrene, hard plastic, or cardboard (or a combination).

No safe should be without a dehumidifier stick or dessicant, no matter how the firearm is stored.

I've store handguns in briefcases lined with ethafoam in the safe for over twenty years....no problem.
