My office has a smallish fire safe that I could procure for the magical amount of FREE. Unfortunately the interior dimensions of this thing leave something to be desired. It's about 15.5"H x 12.5"W x 11.75"D. It has one adjustable shelf which I want to use to subdivide the safe for two racks.

Does anyone know a good source for compact and inexpensive pistol racks/shelves? I'm thinking along the lines of the plastic coated wire models that hold 5-6 pistols. I've seen pictures of these online, but can't find their exact dimensions. The display and wood models aren't of much use to me given the constraints I'm under.

So the racks would need be under 7.5" tall and fit the depth and width measures as well. My hope/plan was to find two compact pistol racks meeting these specs and then felt line the floor and shelf surfaces of the safe to prevent scratches. I was hoping to get 10 pistols into the safe this way.

I don't have any outlandishly large pistols, biggest is probably a Ruger Redhawk or Smith 686 both with 6" barrels.

I've googled, searched TFL and searched THR to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Sounds like one of the "Hand Gun Racks" sold by Cabela's might work for you. Go to the Cabela's web site and look them up by name or "Item: ID-223491."

I have several of the 6-gun models, and I'm pleased. They are a bit pricey, but I searched long and far and never found anything comparable at any price.

LIProgun- many thanks for the tip.

I checked out the racks and I think I can squeeze two of the 4 gun models into my safe. I used Cabela's chat feature and they gave me the exact dimensions

For the sake of posterity and anyone searching in the future:
4 pistol model - 9.375"L x 5.5"W x 5.25H
6 pistol model - 14.8"L x 5.5"w x 5.25H

I love this place. :D

I use a small rubber-coated dish rack I picked up at K-mart for $2. It holds 10 pistols, and fits my top shelf in the safe perfectly.

in my small safe the cabelas's rack was too big. So I made a small rack out of balsa, similar in design to the cardboard separators in cases of liquor bottles, but smaller :smirk: .

I use the old style clothes pin and slip them over the trigger guard. This stands them up at an angle and you can move your handguns around to adjust for their size, instead of wasting space with a fit all type rack.

These clothes pins can still be found at craft stores.
