I have an interest in guns/law enforcement and i bought a rifle a few months ago. i am 18 and i live in wisconsin. i am familiar with the stupid law of 21 for a handgun at the store or a private sale if your 18. i was wondering if i could buy a handgun myself at a gun show. anyone know?

Only if it's from a private seller that's getting rid of some of their personal collection.

Personally I see very few guys selling handguns, if any, at our gun shows here that aren't FFL dealers. You'd probably have better luck with classified ads.

State Law - get to know it.

Don't know about your state but in OK you can buy a handgun in a face to face transaction legally. Don't know for sure but I doubt if you can buy one legally at a gunshow in OK.

That said - you won't be able to buy ammo for your handgun legally until you are 21 - thank the feds for that one. You can probably handload it legally though - cheaper than buying it too.

You may want to think about a black powder revolver. Something like the 1858 Remingtons. Most companys will ship them right to your door with powder and ball. Just so long as your an adult. (and you are)

After you've had the fun of putting some black powder through it pick up a drop-in cylinder for it and you have a .45 Long Colt Revolver. Abit slow to reload, but your still young and you have the time.

Besides, when you go camping, or if you can get your CCW it'd make a hell of a carry piece. :what: :D

IF (only if) it's legal in your state, I'd have a relative (father, uncle) help you.

I worked at a gun shop here in Indiana. A father could legally purchase for their children.

I started shooting when I was maybe 7, so I understand that you may very well be able to handle a firearm. Heck, I owned two pistols and a couple of rifles and shotguns at your age. Unfortunately, times have changed with legal liability. I personally would't sell any firearm without a 4473 transfer to anyone.

Not sure of your level of training, but it might be a good idea to take an NRA supported class. In the one I took, we had general handgun/safety education, plus had an attorney come in to talk about the laws.

I'm only 20 and I have to buy 9mm ammumution for my carbine's that shoot it, and I simply tell the store clerk is going to be shot in a rifle, and they let me buy it.

The federal law prohbit's selling of ammuntion that's intended only for use in handguns. So if it's for use in a rifle you are g2g.

If you're a registered member of the Democratic (sic) party, it's okay to steal a few guns. Not too many. Just a few to tide you over until you're 21.

If you're a Libertarian or Republican, you have to wait.
