Were you using 209 primers?I am throwing all of my powder away and I am going to use T7 next year . I have never had a hang fire using it , but I have with Blackhorn .
I feel the same way about BH209. 777 gives very reliable ignition for me. Blackpowder is even better, but velocity suffers slightly.Yes , CCI 209 magnum primers .
I stopped using no substitutes, I found that they caused corrosion faster than real black powder.
10" groups, is that a typo? If not, something is wrong, I have two CVA Wolfs that shoot much much better than that.Sitting here now with bh209 and 300gr xtp in a CVA optima stainless thumbhole. Shot 11 rounds last night and no mishaps. This gun does shoot 10” groups with 777 though
It shoots terrible with the 777 pellets and 44cal bullets. I tried 777 mag pellets that equal 120gr and it shot about 5'' groups. Tried 45cal bullets and it shot about 2-3'' groups and then BH 209 touches when I am having a good day. Saturday’s range session at 100yards. First 3 then walked it over. The bullseye was actually shot by my girlfriend who has never shot a muzzleloader before. I hate to say it but my ex buddies wolf shoots better than my Optima with 777 pellets. I spent alot of money on bullets trying to get it to shoot before buying the BH209 plug and 45cal bullets.10" groups, is that a typo? I've never had good luck with pellets. It's probably because I grew up shooting black powder. Loose 777 ffg gave me the same results as real ffg but uses about 10% less.It shoots terrible with the 777 pellets and 44cal bullets. I'm paranoid about making sure there is no air space. I probably fracture the pellets.Pellets can give good accuracy, but each rifle is different and time spent finding what propellant and bullet combination gives the best accuracy in YOUR rifle is time well spent.
The last time I checked the zero before going hunting for the muzzle loading season:
