I've heard a lot about these Swiss K31 rifles, and have only heard shooters heaping praise on these rifles, and I'd like one to call my very own. I know that the stocks on K31's tend to be dinged up pretty badly, but they're otherwise usually in good condition. And I think it'd be pretty cool to find a tag in the stock with the former owner's name and location.

So, how much could I expect to pay for such a rifle in decent, shooting condition? And where could I find one, perferably in a physical gun shop. Could a gun store order one maybe?

I didn't think of that for some reason. :banghead: What would be a good price on a good K31 at a gun show? I don't want to get ripped off.

Ohio Rifleman, how close to AIM are you? They have them in stock right now. If you're not close enough to warrant a trip there, figure it this way: cost of the rifle at AIM, plus shipping and approximately twenty-five bucks for a dealer to do the transfer. This should also get you close to gunshow pricing.
These are very finely made rifles and WELL worth the money.

I got my Swiss K-31 from a guy here in West Virginia and i only paid $139 for it, and it did have a tag in it. It needed to be cleaned up a bit but other than that it is in great shape.

Unless there are some gun shows with real deals in your area expect to pay over $200. If your in Ohio and within 4-5 hours of Aim, by all means go there and pick one up. $160 for walnut stock, $120 for beech. If it's a long trip then pick you up a 24/47 mauser as well. And their Prvi Partizan 7.5 swiss is some mighty fine accurate reloadable ammo.

Bought one pristine beech-stocked one at a gunshow for $200. Bought a walnut stock locally for $140.

If you're lucky you can get one for even less, but it's becoming more and more difficult.

I've seen them as high as $250 at the gunshows, but never lower than $150.

I agree with above... AIM is in Middletown, about 20 miles north of Cincinnati. I bought mine there and I've been thrilled with it! It's one of my favorite shooters.

Better hurry and pick one up fast. I bought mine at a gun show over the summer for $125. I was at a store over the weekend and they only had 2 or 3 of them, the cheapest one being $175. I dont think they will be readily available for much longer.

I've lost faith in gunshows as of late.
Samco has them for $120. Spend the extra $20 and get a walnut stock.

The gun will be the least of your expenses. Ammo will run you about $.35/round plus shipping. But it'll be worth it when you see the tiny little groups it shoots.

I was shocked to find that I live actually pretty darn close to the AIM surplus warehouse. MUCH less than the 4-5 hours one poster mentioned. It'll take a while for me to scrounge up the money, but if I do manage to get the cash for one of these fine rifles, it'll be from AIM... If you pick it up there, you don't have to fool around with going through a FFL or anything, right?

Edit: Right now, for my SKS, I'm paying about $.50/round, though no shipping costs. So that's not a huge deal, especially if I get into reloading.

Last time I looked, S&G had "Very Good" condition K31s for $130 ($140 for hand picked), Aim had "Good Plus" beech -stocks at $120 and "Good to Very Good) walnut -stocks for $160, and Samco had a few Special Selects left Walnut $140 and Beech $120.

I have a Samco Special Select with beat-up beech stock that is a great shooter - barrel and action are in excellent condition. I like it so well that I'm currently awaiting delivery on one of J&G's walnut stocked ones.

You are correct. Don't forget to pick up some prvi partisan while your there. It's good stuff and it's in reloadable brass.

Ohio rifleman, sometimes I mention AIM so much in my posts I'm afraid of being accused of being a paid spokesman! Actually, I'm just a very satisfied customer. They have great products, excellent prices and so far for me, perfect customer service.

Anyways, to answer your question. Unless you have a C&R license, you'll have to fill out a Form 4473 at purchase for a K31. They used to charge fifteen bucks to process this. I don't know if they still do or not. They don't me now, but I'm usually up there at least once a month.

Tim, who usually takes care of the walk-ins, is great. If he brings out a rifle and you don't like it, tell him, and he'll bring out another.
