My wife and I used have a sort of "tradition" of exchanging handguns for Valentines Day. Well, over the years that "tradition" sort of slipped into the crack and was forgotten.

Yesterday was our twentieth wedding anniversary (D day + 1. I never have a problem remembering it.) I had a Girsan MC P-35 on order, and I saw it was expected to arrive on the sixth. I took a chance and went back and ordered something I thought she'd like, even if she never shoots it.

Well, it all worked out and they arrived at the same time and we picked them up yesterday. Maybe a new tradition.

First the Girsan. I had ordered one in two-tone black/silver, but they were out of stock. Would a FDE be OK. Sure. I don't really care about the color.

A copy of the P-35 "Hi-Power"...more or less...It looks and feels like the original (except for the color). The grips are much nicer than I thought they'd be. I was going to replace them, but I'll give them a try anyway. It came with one 15 round magazine, which is a bummer, but it's just a range gun for me. I'll pick up another mag or two along the way. All steel construction. The trigger is about 8.5 pounds or so, but feels a lot better. The normal Hi-Power take up, then a wall, and a clean break.
It has a magazine "safety" so the mags don't drop free. Haven't decided what to do about that yet. I may take it out. I may just leave it. As I said, it's not to be a carry gun. Too heavy for this old man to lug around, especially with 16 rounds of 9mm ammo in it. Oh. About $500.00 out the door.

Now, my wife is "German." Well, she was born here, but her family came over "on the boat" a generation or two ago. She likes German "stuff." She doesn't shoot a lot, but likes it when she goes. She used to have a little Bersa 22 that she liked and had said she wishes she never sold it. I was looking for another one, when I found a Walther PPK/S in 22 LR. I thought, she'd like a "Valther." I was right. She was tickled pink.

This one surprised me. I know they have a varrying reputation, but I figured what the heck. It also came with one magazine, and cost less that $300 out the door. It really feels good in my hand. (She thought so too.) Good solid feeling gun. The frame and slide are some kind of aluminum alloy, but there is a good heft. The D/A trigger is...well...is "awful" too strong? I guess it will take two men, a boy, and a small dog to pull it. Single-action isn't too bad. Being a 22, I really can't even dry fire it, so maybe it will be better at the range. We'll try to get to the range over the weekend to see how they do.

I bought these, and thought they'd be an endless supply . . .

24 seems like a lot until you open the pack . . .

MY wife has one of the little "not steel" Walther PP/kes. As long as it HV ammo it works unless the ammo is bad. She also has the "real steel" one in 380. It is kind of user unfriendly. Hard to rack the slide, almost impossible to use in double action, and the recoil is kind of nasty. She hasn't shot it in years because arthritis in her hands makes it too tough to use. I shoot it now and then so it won't get lonesome but to be truthful, I don't really enjoy the experience.

Happy Anniversary to you & Mrs. CajunBass! I hope you two enjoy your new range toys.

Yeah they're surprisingly good. I was also going to replace with nice wood grips but I like the stock grips a lot, so I may hold off for awhile, especially since mine is a carry gun. Plastic deals with humidity and sweat a lot better. Hopefully the cerakoted slide and frame hold up too.

I'm going to have to check that brand out and congratulations!

That's a tradition that I wish my wife and I would have started also. Let's see, I'd have 44 handguns by now.
That would have been nice but she is a non gun person but kind of claimed my Security Six when I'm not there.
Either way, buying a new gun is still met with resistance but it is greatly diminished compared to how it use to be. Pretty much she just rolls her eyes at me and says "Really, Another One".
Now with her, I have to make her buy things for herself, she always been like this, so I have to keep things fare.

Congrats on the anniversary.
I hope your new tradition goes viral! Maybe we could finally do away with that silver, Golden, diamond anniversary bs and adopt a python anniversary ....or a peacemaker anniversary?
....maybe a Blazer anniversary? You would think it would catch on!?

Haul your Mrs to New Braunfels TX and she can get her fill of German! Food, drink, music...it's a good time!

Sweet! Nicely done on both sides .

I cant get my wife to buy me a gift certificate to a gun store, getting a gun as a gift from her would certainly be like lassoing a unicorn for me :(.

Indeed, I had a Manhurin PPK/s .380 years ago that was, indeed, crummy to shoot. I sent it packing with no regrets and kept an FEG SMK .380 (A PPK/s clone) instead.

Stay safe.

CajunBass- congrats to you and the Mrs. on your anniversary as well as for the acquisition of the Girsan and "Valther" pistols.

Happy anniversary twice actually three time on the firearms and more important on your life partner.
For sure better than ties or night out.
