Tomorrow Veterans everywhere will honor each other and be honored by our country.

Today the Marines celebrate their birthday. I salute those who came before me, toast those who come after me, and hope that those serving today do their jobs, and come home safely to the ones who love them.

To those that didn't, won't, and never will, may you rest in peace . . . The saints in Heaven need their sleep.

Semper Fi

I was hoping to be the one to start this thread, but happy someone got to it before me.

Semper Fi Brothers.

How are you celebrating?

My co-workers and I are meeting in our break room at 0630 for cake and "the reading of the message".

"Some people go through life wondering if they made a difference...Marines don't have that problem." R. Reagan

Bless the Corps.

Eleanor Roosevelt was right.
“The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!”

I am celebrating by calling all my Marine buddies and wishing them a boisterous Happy 231st Birthday in my best Gunny Highway voice. The less moto they were, they more boisterous the salutation.:D A couple of my really un-moto brothers may even get the Hymn on their answering machine, (Top of my lungs, at the POA, of course.)

I am also celebrating by buying some 5.56 and .45 this weekend, (Also Buy Ammo week, what a coincidence.)

Semper Fi, brothers and sisters.

I will be calling and e-mailing all my fellow Devil Dogs today. Happy Birthday to all my fellow Marines and keep all those at arms in your prayers this weekend. This year I've decided to celebrate by ordering 2 M1's from CMP - one for my father in law who had his stolen, and one of course for me. Semper Fidelis my brothers. Everyone have a great day.

And a special "Semper Fi" to Mr. Jud Wagner of Smith County Kansas: the worlds oldest living Marine and Kansas' only surviving WWI veteran.

Mr. Wagner is 107, joined the Corps in 1916 when he was 17 years old. According to one of the nurses at the long term care facility where he lives he often tells them "I'm a Marine. I fought for you guys."

Oh yeah.

Happy Birthday Marines.

Phone calls and reflections.
A toast to comrades later tonight around the campfire.

"The raising of that flag on Suribachi means a MARINE CORPS for the next 500 years."
JAMES FORRESTAL, SECRETARY OF THE NAVY

Vick

I will be shooting with a retired squid (SEAL) tomorrow.

If I defeat him in the course, I think I will request that he sing the Marine Corp Hymn in honor of our birthday celebration....

When he comes back with "The Marines are a section of the Department of the Navy!" I will respond with the age-old rejoinder............"Yeah, the MEN'S department!" :D

JGYRINE (aka juggler) 2nd MarDiv, 2nd Combat Eng. 1976-1979

Semper Fi, Happy Birthday Marines and pass the Tobasco Sauce!
On a more serious note, bring home all of us you can and may the ones that cant come home be in heaven for hours before the devil knows they died.

How to tell a Marine

You can always tell a Marine. You can't tell 'em very much but you can always tell 'em.
The second answer is you have to tell 'em real loud, real Marines didn't wear earplugs.
I hope all the Marines out there know that the Army is proud of their service. That keeps us out of those stupid little boats.
No, seriously, I hope that you all can stop by Fiddler's Green on your way to those streets paved with gold an guarded by Marines, and share a canteen of muzzle blast and swap a few war stories with this old retired War Horse.
I will hit the mute button at the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month. I will pray for world peace and enough Marines to make it that way.

How are you celebrating?

I'll call up a few buddies, say happy birthday and get caught up. Then I'll go through my photo albums and float books. Then I'll grab a cold one, sit out on the lanai, and think about the ones I can't call and talk to.

Just like I do every year.

Happy Birthday guys and gals of the USMC! You have my respect and my thanks.

Happy Birthday to my Brother and Sister Marines. To all who have served, I raise my glass, and to those who are serving, I raise my glass and salute. Carry on, and Semper Fi.
