What a wonderful day of shotgun-buying!!!
I received a several-hundred-dollar refund from the IRS yesterday, and decided I was going to spoil myself. All I can say is that someone up there must be looking out for me, because I landed in Remington 870 Wingmaster heaven!
At the first dealer I went to (a friend of mine), a customer was trying to trade in an 870 Wingmaster (in really, really good condition - 95%+). He was offered in trade only about the price of a new 870 Express, so I asked my friend if I could buy it direct from his customer, at a slightly better price. He agreed, the customer was willing, and I picked up the Wingmaster for $250 cash - no tax, no paperwork.
Then, just in passing (without really expecting much) I dropped in at a pawnshop where I've done a lot of buying in the past. The gunmeister there said that he had a virtually new 870 Wingmaster, if I was interested. His price was $375.00. Then he went and had a word with the boss, and came back to tell me that as a "thank you" for past business, I could have this gun for $275 if I wanted it. Did I want it? - silly question!
To make life even nicer, I'm usually delayed on approval of firearm purchases - but today, for the first time in two years, my approval went straight through, so I could take the gun with me! My pawnshop friend, hearing about the refund and the bargain on the other shotgun, tells me I should buy a lottery ticket today, as things just seem to be going my way!
So, at the end of the day, I have two Remington 870 Wingmasters in 12ga, both with Magnum receivers for 2¾" or 3" shells, with 28" Rem-Choke vent-rib barrels, in virtually mint condition (I swear neither has had more than three or four boxes of ammunition through them, and the wood is in beautiful condition), all for a grand total, including tax on the second gun, of just under $550. What a day for a deal!
(By the way, if anyone's interested, the pawnshop has another decent-condition 870 for $250. It shows some wear, but not anything excessive: the metal has worn blueing on the tube and near the reloading port, and the wood has seen better days, but I'd say it's in 80% condition overall, or possibly better [I gauge condition pessimistically]. This one is a Magnum receiver, for 2¾" or 3" shells. There's another one, rather more worn and a bit rusty, for 2¾" shells only, for $225. If you want to know more, PM me, and I'll send you the pawnshop's details for you to call them.)
