I agree 100% with them that shooting up into the air isn't such a hot idea. If they'd left it at that, I wouldn't even be posting this. But:

Bullets fired into the air can return to the ground faster than 200km per hour, with enough force to penetrate a human skull. While 'celebratory' gunfire is recognised as a significant public health problem, the practice is widespread and culturally accepted in South East Europe, the Middle East, South Asia and some Latin American countries.

IANSA members and other organisations have been working on this issue with a particular focus on reducing aerial fire on New Year's Eve. This year, UNDP Macedonia is running a joint campaign with government and civil society organisations in Skopje. The aims of the campaign are to reduce violence, celebratory fire, alcohol intoxication and firecracker incidents over the New Year period.

Yes, because enacting your goals of allowing only Governments to own guns will reduce violence, and we need firecracker control for the sake of the children!

Shooting live ammo into the air is a bad idea unless you know where the bullet will land (and it's on your property!). Shooting blanks with a full auto and a blank adapater would be a great way to ring in the new year though!
The firecracker issue is stupid. In this state anything that goes 6ft off the ground or explodes is illegal (which pretty much leaves smoke bombs, snakes, and the lamest of fountains). 20 miles to the north in WA they have mortars, roman candles, etc. Typically they have about 1/10th the number of emergency room visits for firework related injuries because people here have to make their own or alter legal fireworks to have anything decent.
All they need to say is "Happy New Year! Don't be an idiot!" Darwin will take care of the rest.

Shooting live ammo into the air is much less dangerous than voting for, or supporting leftists. About 150 million of their own citizens killed by govt in the last century by leftists. Shooting in the air is really stupid, but has not produced the consequences of allowing leftists into control. Not even close.
