Hard Cast SWC with H110?

well I looked at the PMC 44 box ammo I've been shooting and the velocity is pretty much the same as H110 so I figured that's what I'm used to

digging around different sources it looks like 2400 is good for what I want also, like a couple of you already said
they have that at Scheels, so I might try that first

The issue with W296/H110 is... there is very little forgiveness. Because that powder, specifically, has very little wiggle room, you start at the top and stay there... not something I suggest for a newer reloader. If you start in the middle, with something like Unique (BE-86, AA#5, et al...), you can work on your reloading technique and make sure you have your ducks in a row before moving on to a higher performance powder like W296/H110... or even 2400 or IMR4227, all the while producing very good midrange ammo. For that matter, you can ramp up something like Unique to produce 80% of a full-house load, and maybe still be where you want, using half the powder (of W296/H110) and standard primers.

Very true. Pressure may spike with an increase in powder. When i was working up with W296, the extra 1/2 gr in the 44 mag peened the center pin* in the cylinder. full.jpg

I thought that, too, at first... but it cleans up when you get it to the top of the charge ranges.

That's what I meant, but I see how my post may have been unclear. I edited it for clarity. It definitely likes a full case and a tight crimp. I like 4227 alot, it's very forgiving. I'm not sure you can fit enough of it in a case to cause over pressure issues. Most max loads are compressed it seems.

When I first got it, loading starting loads, I was not happy with it. People call Unique 'flaming dirt,' well... what do they call this garbage??? Then... I loaded 1grn higher charges for my 1894 .41MAG... and THAT's where it shined. Versatile, too... I use it with cast bullet loads in .30-30, .308, and even .348WCF, besides handgun carbine loads. It has a permanent place on the bench, now.
