Hard lube recipe?

Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum. Maybe some will say I have too much time on my hands but I'm kicking around the idea of making my own hard bullet lube. Only problem is, I don't know the ingredients. Anyone out there have a recipe for hard bullet lube?

I don't have a recipe for you, but I belong to a list sponsered by the Cast Bullet association and they discuss homemade lubes on a daily basis.

Do a search on the net for "felix lube cast bullet" and you will find the recipe for Felix lube. It is quite specific in recipe and preparation but works VERY VERY well, better than any commercial lube I have tried for sure. I took the liberty of changing it up a little last time and my modified Felix lube is outstanding also. The important part is not getting the lube too hard or it won't flow at low speeds and pressures. Beeswax is the real key, it flows well and gets the lube to the bore. Unless transporting bullets by mail, extreme high temperature storage or shooting or something else that requires a hard lube I do not recommend nor use a true "hard" lube. Soft lubes are easier to apply, and in most all cases work better. Make your lube just hard enough to prevent it being messy and you are there.

I also like the Felix lube. I made my first (huge) batch too hard, and had to heat the luber. Next time I won't add paraffin at all.

Thanks for the fast replies. Not slamming anyone but I had this topic on another forum for 3 weeks without a single hit. I'll check out the suggestions provided thus far but, in the meantime - the more replies/leads the better.

Paul "Fitz" Jones says he will furnish the secret formula for SAECO green bullet lube. As I recall, it is largely paraffin wax and STP, with some green dye. I don't recall the proportions though. Drop him a wire.

The recipe for SAECO green bullet lube sounds like what I'm looking for. My ol' lady is a sales consultant for a major candle company & I'm a pack rat which means I've got scrap candle wax up the butt that I can't bring myself to throw away. So, who is "Fitz" Jones & how do I contact him?

I'm not trying to be nosey but wouldn't bee's wax (being softer and more pliable and workable) be a better substitute for candle or parafin wax?

I realize that bee's wax is a little more expensive but it was just a thought.

Then I guess it would depend on the entire recipe that would determine if a softer or harder wax would work best.

FWIW, John Linebaugh told me that he thinks the wax from toilet bowl rings is about the best lube you can get. It's not hard, but a good lube.

Now that is most interesting Steve .. funny really, when I built our new bathroom in 2002, I did think as I installed the ring .... just how much it looked like a good bullet lube!!

Never tried it of course but it does get me to thinking for sure. Main problem I guess could be getting it into the lubrisizer .... those pre-formed ''rods'' of lube with a hole down the middle are so very convenient!

I've heard that toilet bowl rings aren't really good for black powder guns and/or muzzleloaders though. Something about petroleum products in the wax. I don't think it's real beeswax....just made to look like it. Smokeless wouldn't be a problem though.

I tried different formulas for years but saw the beeswax ingredient on the toilet bowl rings and have used it ever since. It's big time cheap. You simply cut off 3 inches or so, open your sizer, slide it in and when you replace the plunger, it puts the hole in the middle automatically. No fuss no muss.

The bad news is that lately in an attempt to save money some manufacturers are not using beeswax, the good news is, whatever they are using it works just as well.
