Harrington and Richardson 922

Good day I have a H & R 922 that I am trying to learn the year on I know its a 922 I have a serial number no letters in the serial all it is is a number 158456
I was told by a gun smith that it might be from around 1900 but I am not sure how to determine it was My grandfathers gun and I have had it for about 15 years or so its not mint but its still a piece of My families history only thing I have from that side anyways any input I would greatly appreciate thanks

A buddy had one many years ago. Inexpensive but very servicable. I shot it and it was a good shooter.

Harrington & Richardson began production of firearms in 1871, taking over the business known then as Wesson and Harrington.They continued production until Jan. 24, 1986. No serialization is published prior to 1940. All guns made after 1940 used letters of the alphabet to precede the s/n, and record date of manfacture. The date of manfacture of your gun might very well be around the turn of the century. You may be able to get the date by writing the factory. (Source: Fjestad; "Blue Book of Gun Values")

I don't have any good sources. The Gun Trader's Guide says production of the 1st edition stopped in 1942. I have a late model of the 1st edition (6 inch round barrel) with the S/N 175,XXX. Quite a bit later than yours - which I presume has the 10 inch octagon barrel.

Here is a range report on a H&R 923, essentially the same revolver with a nickel finish.

Around Christmas, I bought a H&R 922 for $69, but returned it due to not functioning in SA. I do not have the serial number available.

A photo of your revolver will help immensely. Old Fuff is our resident expert on these guns. Are your grips plastic? Is the barrel octagon?
