Harris Bipod

Does anyone have a harris bipod on one of their rifles? What bipod? What rifle? What size is most comfortable for the type of shooting you're doing by the way? For instance is 6''-9'' more suitable for prone or standing- or a mixture of several positions? I was thinking maybe 12-25 so what would be the best position for that? I will shoot mostly prone, with sitting and kneeling as well and other positions thrown into the mix.

I have a couple Harris bipods that I move around to various rifles as needed.

One of the pods is 6"-9" and the other is taller-can't remember the exact size.

They attach easily to swivel studs-hard to explain but very simple mechanism once you see it. You can attach a sling to the Harris as they accommodate the attachment of a sling quite easily-again, you have to see it to understand.

Harris also sells adapters/mounts for various rifles like the Mini-14/30. I have a 30 but I simply installed a stud onto the forearm to handle the bipod. No big deal.

6"-9" work well for bench work but not much else. You can attach a sling to the bipod itself. They are the only bipod I'll use.

6"-9" also work great off the hood or roof of a pickup for groundhogs at distance. Plus, they're more "steady" than the higher models.

6-9 swivel notched leg, A sling can be attached to the back of the bi-pods. There great for bench or prone.

I agree with the other posts, but I can add that I recommend you get a swiveling model, if you shoot in places other than off the bench, or a nice level lawn. They are more, but well worth it, IMO.

i have a 6-9inch and it works well for me in the prone

to attatch the bipod there is a screw on the underside of the mounting plate that has two hinged pieces that will clamp together on your swivel as you tighten it

these two pieces also include a hole that acts as an improvised mounting location for a sling

you said that you have two swivels already on your stock my suggestion would be to mount the bipod to one and the sling to the other

when i mounted my sling to the bipod i found it a bit uncomfortable to shoot standing (using the sling as a rataining strap around my arm) YMMV

almost every shooter i have has a bipod on it either a harris or a knockoff thereof i find the shorter bipods are better for me shooting from the prone and bench mostly and while kneeling or standing i dont use them

I have several. Yes you can put a sling swivel on them no problem if you have the right adapters. It doesn't come ready for a sling though, at least mine didn't. Couple of bucks for the little part though, wasn't a big deal.

I put the Uncle Mikes QD swivels on mine. They fit just right.

Attached is a photo of my tricked out DPMS in .260 Rem. with Leupold 4.5-14X glass. Notice the Harris bipod, which is the only bipod I'd ever consider using.

I've got several different ones, a couple of actual Harris brand and a couple Harris clones. Most of mine are 9"-13" "L" models, but I do have an "H" or 13.5"-23". The BR model is just too short for my taste, but it works good off of a bench and may be better for prone than the 9-13. The 9-13 is a tad on the tall side for a lot of the prone shooting I've done. So truth be known, I should probably own a 6-9, but I digress... if you're going to be shooting from a seated position, IMHO the 23" model is the only way to go. The others just wont be tall enough, not if you're going to be sitting and glassing an open prairie or something similar. When I put the 23" model on my old 300 H&H it makes for a great setup for open country. As another gentlemen mentioned, I'd opt for the swivel feature as well. Off of a level bench, you'll probably never need it but with the gun parked on unlevel ground you can't live without it.

i got a Harris 6-9" for my latest project bench rest rifle and found it to be too short for prone for me. i need a 9-13 so i'm going to exchange it. i'm tall and lanky with neck damage from doing high jump in high school and college and landing on my head a lot and the taller one feels way better for me. also, with the 6-9. i can't get enough upward angle with the butt of the stock being so low, that i couldn't aim at something much above me, say, on a hillside, because the butt hits the ground before i can raise the muzzle enough.

i really wish there were more good alternatives to Harris because i honestly think that a bipod shouldn't cost $100 or more. maybe it's just my grinchy, penny pinching side coming out, i dunno. Rock Mount comes close, but frankly, isn't as high quality as the Harris.

I have a 6-9" Harris Chinese Knock-off bipod which works well on my mouse&nogun snipper rifle. I got my bipod at an on line air soft store for about $25 which is 1/4 the cost of Harris and 1/2 the cost of most knock-offs.

I have also noticed that with the bipod and shooting from a bench with an AR-15, it help (me) if I use a smaller magazine - I use Colt 10 round magazines when shooting from a bench with the bipod.

I have the a 6-9" on my savage 10FP. It is great for prone. I did have a 13-26" on it for a while and it was great for sitting kneeling, but was too high for prone shooting for me. I do switch occasionally depending on how I'll be shooting that day.
