I want a harris bipod for my weatherby vanguard rifle. I was wondering which size to get. There are a few sizes, I think I want the second smallest one but im not sure. This rifle will primarily be shot from a bench or in a prone position.

Thanks

I use both a 6-9 and 9-12, over a bench the 6-9 is great but doesn’t always work well off the ground in prone for that I find the 9-12 to work best for me. It just depends on your terrain and ground cover. One thing I would advise, spend the little extra for notched legs and swivel. I cant not being to tell you how the frustrating the friction locks can be when trying to level the gun in prone on uneven ground.

One that swivels, and has locking knobs for the legs will give you the most versatility. That way you can lock the legs at different hieghts for uneven ground.

+1 on having both.

For me the 6-9 is perfect for testing from the bench but too short for prone. and the 9-12 is perfect for prone but way too tall for bench work.

For uneven ground I just leave the attachment point a little loose so I can cant the rifle back to level.

I would say 6-9 with Notched legs and swivel, 6-9 is perfect for bench shooting and good for prone. Notched legs make things so much easier.

I have a 6"-9" Harris Bipod that I bought earlier this summer.

As people have said, it is great for bench shooting. I get better groups with it than I do with sandbags.

By the way, it is for sale, PM me if interested.

I will be getting a larger one - just my personal preference.

you guys must have a bigger belly or something :) i use the 6-9" on all my prone guns, and i've never had a problem. i get pretty low to the ground.

otoh, when there is tall grass or uneven terrain that prevents me from using the 6-9" i give up on the bipod entirely because i can't shoot comfortably from prone higher up than 9". I mean, i would move to sitting.

I agree Taliv, 6-9" has always been tall enough for me...and I usually set it to about 7-8. :)

6-9 is perfect for prone with me too but it also depends on where your shooting. I doubt to many people would be shooting uphill though, I shoot down hill.

Big belly and "something" too, I can't take a very low prone. I use the 9-13 set at 9 - 10. The swivel is good, I wish I had gotten the notched leg model.

I don't want a bipod on a bench, a rest and sandbags is steadier.
