In the 80s I had a 30-06 chambered 721. Good rifle and I liked it. Sold it to buy parts for another rifle. While I do not regret the sale, I would buy another one!

I enjoyed the article. Thanks for posting the link.

So did I. I don't know how I missed that article when it first came out. How often does one read an article from an expert on calibers for hunting Africa with half a century of experience to back it up. And it was also interesting what calibers he didn't mention at all. Obviously his rifle was more than adequate for the task at hand or Mr. Selby wouldn't have used it for 50 years.
Keeps it simple, double 470 NE on elephants, rhino, and buffalo. Remington 721
30/06 on everything else. And the 30/06 was often used for buffalo for personal use when it was still legal. Enough confidence in it he would allow his 11 year old son to take his first buffalo bull with it. What a refreshing read !!!!

Questioning Harry Selby's choice of calibers would be like a stick-ball player critiquing Babe Ruth's swing.

OYE

Just goes to show that

nothing really impressive has come around since 1903 (30-06) and 1912 (.375 H&H).
