Has anyone became a member of Garand Collectors Association (GCA) lately?

It's been almost three weeks since they got my info via fax. Last week I e-mailed them to confirm they received the fax. Guy e-mailed me back and said they received it.

They still haven't charged me for it. Someone on another forum said they were slow. I figured I'd ask here just to see if anyone else was experiencing the same thing.

I sent them a check and got back a recept on Sat. Still have not opened it yet though.
Maybe it's time to go ammo shopping at the CMP??

GTF, are you expecting something from them? As an organization, they are a bit low key, which is fine with me. I signed up at the CMP North Store in July during the games at Camp Perry as I forgot my CMP affiliated gun club membership card at home (the copy they had on file had expired) and I wanted to make a purchase. Took about a month/month and a half before I got any notification that my application through the CMP went through and received their periodical (which, IMO, is pretty good with historical information on the Garand). If you're expecting a lot of mailings like the NRA or GOA, you'll be disappointed.

I'm not expecting mailings, I am expecting to be charged for membership and sent a number or something via e-mail.

I want to join CMP, and I can't without this.

I'm going to e-mail them again today and see what they say. I still haven't been charged for it, so I doubt CMP has my info yet.

Hell, I e-mailed them just a couple of minutes after posting this, and they e-mailed me back just about three minutes later:

Hi XXXX,
Your application is being processed today. You should be receiving your new member packet and membership card in the mail shortly. Your new GCA member number is XXXXX.

Thank you and welcome to the GCA!

Now I'm off to join the CMP.

The thing I don't like about the GCA is that no matter when you join, your membership expires on September 1st. There is no pro-ration of your membership fees. I need a good CMP approved group for less $$ that doesn't cut my membership off early. They do put out a really nice magazine though...

Yes, I noticed that about their membership renewal. It seems to indicate a lack of computerization on their end.

There's no reason any supposed professional organization should make everyone renew on the same date.

It's just lazy. There are programs out there that could automate renewal dates.

Unfortunately there are no other clubs near me.
