I grew up in NM and lived in Northern AZ for a couple of years. Planning on moving back to one or the other in retirement.

NM ain’t nothing more than rattlesnakes and banditos. Stay away! ;)

Is that a FLYING SAUCER (or your BIG BROTHER surveillance drone?) in the upper center part of pic #..... 123018 ?

MUST BE LOST AND TRYING TO FIND ROSWELL...

Nice pics.
Only thing wrong with Wyoming and Montana is that they get too much snow (feet, not inches!) and too close to California!!!
I’ve only seen slivers of Arizona and New Mexico. Liked what I saw driving Interstate through Flag Staff
.
Also thinking on leaving Georgia. Turning deeper blue every day... Never was able to shoot the NRA NPSC when they were held in Albuquerque. New Dimocrat Mayor ran off the NPSC. NRA moved them back to Mississippi.
I can stand cold. But despise shuffling in, driving on, and shoveling snow...
Too much like real work, and shoveling sand against the tide.
Too old to do either.

I love my home state of Arizona. We were voted #1 for Firearms Freedom by Guns and Ammo magazine 8 years straight. We have Constitutional Carry, Stand Your Ground, Castle Doctrine and Preemption and for those who want permits we still have Shall Issue. We do NOT have; permit to purchase, permit to own, FOID, magazine restrictions, firearm bans, restrictions on number of firearms owned or carried, storage restrictions, vehicle restrictions...suffice to say our laws are pretty darn good and getting better every time the Legislature meets. If you move here, we'd love to have more gun people - join the Arizona Citizens Defense League, our incredible effective grassroots lobby team. Tp put it in perspective, if you lawfully own an NFA firearm, like a machinegun on the National Registry, you can legally carried it concealed with no further permit, license, etc. Of course, I wanna see you do it. We have MANY nice ranges, some free and city maintained like the Casa Grande Elzy Pearson Memorial Firing Range, etc., including at least two 1,000 yard ranges, one being Tucson Rifle Club in Three Points, AZ. No waiting periods, insta-check system, and if you do have a shall issue CCW permit there is no further background check. Walk in to the gun shop, pick out your firearm, ammo, holster, etc, do the paperwork, present your permit and ID, and if you are not a prohibited possessor, once the cash register is done making music, you can walk outside, load up and strap on open or concealed. Seriously. I don't recommend it - you should test fire before you carry something. ;) Wanna carry a slung rifle? Legal - not SMART, really, unless you are outside of the city, but legal. Want to carry twin six guns swung way down low? OK. Open carry, even after we got CCW permits in 1994 and Constitutional Carry in 2010, is still relatively common and unremarked upon unless, as the officer above noted, some tourist gets afraid and calls 911. Unrestricted open carry has been legal since we became a state!
C'mon down, sir, we've plenty of room for people who like freedom, and none at all for those who would destroy it.

There is a lot to love about Arizona. The hunting can be excellent, frustrating and hard to draw depending on what you like to do. Gun laws are excellent. For a hunters paradise I would look at Wyoming but AZ has a lot to offer

Not a great trout fishing state but if you like bass and catfish and heat then we have stuff

My daughter lived in Mesa for years and I was stationed at Fort Huachuca years ago. We visit relatives there and are looking to buy or rent a snowbird place near out relatives. Lot rents are crazy compared to what we pay for our lake RV here or we would have one there already.
Yeah the Calf idiots have ruined Colorado and other places. The trouble is they don't like California but move elsewhere and bring the same liberal stupidity with them and ruin the new place.

I had to go back and look. HAHA. That's a chip I had in my last windshield.

AZ is great, but don't forget New Mexico, 12 big game species including Oryx, and one of the best fly fishing rivers on the planet in the San Juan. Open carry, concealed carry, great Albuquerque city gun range with ranges out to 1,000 yards, and the NRA Whittington Center. About 20 degrees cooler than Phoenix, kind of a cross between Denver and Phoenix. Half the state is either National Forest or BLM land so open to shooting.

Forget New Mexico. There is nothing here but rattlesnakes, lizards, jackrabbits, and a state that has been taken over by ultra liberal politicians that are doing their damnest to turn it into another California. We only have one large town which has the distinction of being the 4th most dangerous city in the nation. We also have the worst education system in the nation and 50% of the residents are drawing some kind of government assistance.

I've vacationed some in AZ and always take a few guns for fun. I've had no problem finding places to target shoot, but no experience hunting there.

I hunted Arizona for nearly 40 years around the Phoenix are. Mostly for quail, dove and rabbits. On occasion a coyote or fox would run in front of me and if I was using my shotgun they were dead. I hunted deer and elk with the bow and arrow.

There are so many good areas. Wickenburg is great and anything north on HW 95 is good. There use to be a lot of groves around the city where dove hunting rocked but now they are covered with houses so you need to go out of town a bit more.

Payson was a great area for Elk.

I’ve flown to Arizona just to dove hunt, it’s fantastic.

Quail hunting is outstanding if they have a wet monsoon season, otherwise pretty rough.

The big game; deer, elk, sheep and antelope is some of the best in the country. But the best units, during the best seasons, can take a decade or 2 to draw.

But if you’re an archery hunter, they have generous deer seasons in Sept, December and January.

Arizone has Cous deer which is unique.

And the Show Low area is beautiful!

I've got 68 days left until I qualify for a Resident Hunting Liscense here in AZ.

Not that I'm keeping track or anything...

Probably going to go out and try for coyote that weekend.
