I've had a Ruger Mini-14 ranch rifle hanging around for several years but since building myself a couple of 1/4" grouping Ar15's I don't take it out because it just isn't much of a range shooting gun.

But I still like the way it is - the simple M1 style action, the wood stock, the overall toss it in the truck, strap it on the tractor, don't worry over it kind of little rifle it is.

Now I notice that Shilen makes a replacement for it, but that barrel is priced at $289. which is more than I paid for the rifle, considerably more. I don't think I want to go for that.

So are there any others that anyone knows about, or even some tricks and fixes that might make the rifle a minute of angle at least sort of shooter?

Look at it this way... even if you Pay $289 for a new barrel, you've still paid less total for that rifle than a new one, and it'll be a lot better than a new one. :)

I think a heavier barrel is going to give you your largest increase in accuracy. I know there are people out there that do accurizing of the mini so people will chime in I'm sure. But pretty much barrel, trigger and sight upgrades will get you pretty far.

I have a Mini 14 that shoots 3/4 MOA all day with 60 gr. Hornady V Max bullets, and smaller groups with heavier match bullets. All it took was a full machine shop and a Shilen match barrel. The Mini 14 can be accurized, similar to a M1A, the stock skinny barrel just makes it very hard.
