Mossberg 930 SPX stock question

Okay Mossy experts......help me out here............

I just ordered my 930 SPX, it'll be here in a few days.

I wanted the pistol grip version for the PG and the 13" length of pull. Wasn't able to get that done, and I already know that the 14" LOP on the standard 930 SPX version is going to be too long for me.

What are my options for a replacement stock (both PG and non PG) with a shorter LOP ?

Choate ? Ramline ? Knoxx ?

Choate is your only option. At the present no one else is offering a replacement stock for the SPX.

There is a spring loaded tube that runs most of the length of the stock so it can't be shortened much.

Max is right- in fact I'd say it can't be shortened much if at all, after pulling the recoil pad off mine as soon as I got it home. Fortunately for me, it fits OK with the factory stock as it is, so I probably won't worry about it too much. My wife (5'4" to my 6'3") shouldered it, and pronounced that while she was happy with the light weight and ample forearm, "Some guns were just built for bigger people." This seems to be one of them, unless Mossberg gets around to refining the design on their bolt return spring tube. Since they seem to have trouble making enough of them to meet demand in the first place, that may take a while. Maybe the aftermarket will come to the rescue after a while with a shorter bolt return spring tube and spring (hint, Max, hint...).

Lee....since I am closer to your wife's height than yours, I am gonna have to have some sort of relief.

Blake.....I was checking around, not expecting much knowing how hard they are to find lately, and found a gun shop in East Tennessee that had "lucked into one". So, I'm "lucking into one" and taking it off their hands.

It's shipping tomorrow.

Maybe the aftermarket will come to the rescue after a while with a shorter bolt return spring tube and spring (hint, Max, hint...).

It looks like it would be pretty easy to do.

The Choate pistol grip stock is the one Mossberg is offering on some of their SPX shotguns new out this year. I believe the Choate stock has a spacer that can be removed to shorten the length of pull. I have never seen one in person.

If that's the same PG stock standard on the 930 SPX PG versions, then that's the one with the 13" LOP, and thus, the one I need.

Mossberg must have made a change to the Choate stock. When Choate first offered it, they said the spacer "must be used with the stock", but perhaps they were just playing it safe.

There IS room to shorten the length of pull. If you remove the recoil pad you'll see there is a .75 inch long Stock Nut Spacer between the Stock Nut and the Retention Plate. The Spacer could easily be removed and substituted with a washer. The return spring housing could be shortened that .75 inches without any problems, so far as I can see. In a worst case circumstance the threads on the return spring housing may have to be cut a little bit longer, but from my eyeball measurements it shouldn't need to be done.
