Has anyone noticed on the HK P2000 or P2000sk that the recoil spring is painted red on one side? I also noticed that the slide stop/release appears to have some red underneath the black paint. Has anyone seen this before or is it just mine? Does anyone know what purpose (if any) this serves?

I work at a manufacturing company and when the steel comes in one
edge is painted to color code the gauge if steel it is.
I am guessing you got a spring cut off that edge.

Springs are painted to ensure the correct one is used.

If 9mm, .40, and .357 SIG all use different, but similar springs, it may be hard to tell them apart. To make sure the assembly worker uses the correct spring, the springs are color coded.

You'll also notice that some companies use different colors for magazine followers...

Oh, okay. IT makes sense to me now.

My wifes new PT111 has red on the spring, her old PT111 had blue, My 24/7 has green. Put all of them on the table at once and its a rainbow of springs :scrutiny:
