Has anyone used or our own the Mojo Sight on a milsurp rifle? They're peep sights that replace the standard rear sights.

I'd be very interested to hear about anybody's experience with them.

They look nice and sturdy. I want to upgrade the iron sights on my SKS and Mosin Nagant.

The forward mounted peeps dont work like the rear and properly mounted peeps. You still need to consciously align the front and rear sights, and it can be a bit confusing.

With the rear mounted peep, you look through it, and really dont pay attention to the rear sight, and your eye naturally centers the front sight in it.

Ive had both rifles and handguns with the peeps on them that were forward of where a traditional peep normally is, and did not find them to work very well.

I’ve used them on a Mosin 91/30 and WASR-10, and it is an upgrade over what is on there, but doesn’t work quite as well as the peep on something like an AR, just because it is so far forward of your eye.

When I hunted the thick woods with my Mosin, I liked it for hunting. The limitations ak103k states pretty much sum up my experience, but I still like the mojo sight more than a shallow v notch.

Mojo sights are similar to some of the swedish mauser target sights and some Krag and Springfield sights also had small peep sights as well. They work best with good eyesight and are designed for more precision than fixed rear open sights but they are slower. Milsurps open sights work better for speed and shooting at moving targets (e.g. battle).

I am leaving out the original 1903 Springfield sights with its adjustable sight inserts and the 1901 Krag sights which can be used for targeting and also give rear windage capabilities. The original No. 1 Mk 3 sights are a good compromise allowing rear windage adjustment but open sights.

If you have an SKS, Tech Sights are better but require minor mods--you have to remove the rear receiver cover to mount it.

Take a look at Smith Sights as well, http://smith-sights.com/, they make the Mosin sights more usable.

I use one on my Swedish Mauser, and like it a lot.

My eyes are old, and conventional rear sights appear as just a blur. The rear aperture overcomes this problem in the same way stopping down a camera lens brings more objects into focus.

Sighting through a front aperture feels a little odd at first, but it works, and I shoot very good groups that way.

I've had a Mojo on my SKS for years; I can use the post or hood as a front sight; I do like the one in the above link.

I've had Mojo and Williams aperture sights on my SKS. The reality for me was that with these sights mounted so far forward, I really needed to remove the apertures to see dim targets well enough. And neither of them helped my view of the target like an aperture near the eye can do.

In the end, I reinstalled the original SKS rear sight and sold both the Mojo and Williams on eBay years ago. I still have my SKS and I simply developed a better appreciation for quick elevation adjust notch rear sights. My CZ452 Trainer rimfire rifle rear sight is the same and I love being able to slide that rear sight up and down as needed.

That's my experience using my eyes. We gotta do what we gotta do.
