Now that Kel-Tec have worked (most) of the bugs out of the P-3AT, its acceptance as a primary carry pocket pistol seems to be widespread, indeed I have one of my own.

Caliber shortcomings aside, and steering clear of the never ending debate about whether to use JHPs or FMJs, does anyone know of any actual shootings involving P-3ATs and the eventual outcome.

Thanks

Thanks for this thread! I am one of the few that doesnt own a Kel-Tec and Im about to buy a new P-3AT for pocket carry. The people I knwo with them either trust them or dont. So are the bug worked out for the most part?

My own P-3AT needed a trip back to Florida to become reliable, but I have a Generation 1 model and not the new version with the "Frankenbolt" extractor.

A pistol of this size and weight is always going to be on the ragged edge of reliability with a cartridge like the .380, or any cartridge for that matter, but mine is now reliable and very convenient for warm weather carry.

So, back at the original thread - does anyone know of an actual shooting with the P-3AT ?

Well those that tried to use are likely dead, and if they survived. They have sent theirs back to the factory for repairs.:D
Now That should get the ball rolling. I carry a 380 but in a PPK/S I want a pistol I can hold on to and gets most out of 380 round. KT does neither. It just small ,cute and I almost forgot lite. Well small & cute to me are blonds or redheads and lite is what I order when I want a Beer. :neener:

You have to have a mighty big pocket for a PPK. My Kel Tec is smaller, lighter, and being as it's a 9mm holding 11 reliable rounds of +P (My gun is one of the first P11s and never had to go back to the factory) I'd rather carry it than a PPK. If I carry .380, it's because it'll fit in a pocket, not for its devistating power. If I have to carry IWB, I'll carry a more powerful round.

My friend recieved a p3at from his fiance as a Christmas present. I like how compact the gun is. What amazed me about it is how far that thing chucks the brass. Also, the barrel looks kind of thin. Inherently the pistol is not going to win any long distance accuracy contests, but I was wondering if a thin barrel such as on the p3at has any effect on longjevity.

Just regular old Wal Mart jeans and a Don Hume Pocket holster. Now P-11 doesn't fit in my jeans but would make good IWB. Thats the one model of KT I like.

LightningJoe: I'm sure all the Colt Bersa, new S&WPPK/S owners, Beretta,Sig and all the other companys that make or have made do their share of keeping the 380 and 32 going not just KT. 380 has always been a good selling round long before KT came along.

Ive always wonder about the people that say the 380 is no good or bottom of pile for a SD round Then say they carry for a BUG. If I need a BUG I want as much power as my main gun. Not min for SD. Because in my way of thinking if I need my BUG I'm in deep .......

I suspect that few here have any first-hand knowledge of an actual shooting incident. Grim stories from the anti-gun crowd notwithstanding, the truth is few people are ever likely to witness a gun being fired in anger (fortunately, of course). If a Kel-Tec P-32 or P3A-T is used in a shooting incident, I am quite certain the results will be no different than had another firearm been used. When a citizen pulls out a weapon in front of an assailant the most likely scenario is that the bad guy will just retreat and go assault somebody else. If he isn't impressed and the citizen must fire, his marksmanship will matter far more than whether he was packing a P3A-T or an Ed Brown custom .45 auto.

Sorry guys, but I'm rapidly losing faith in the idea that a weapon's caliber really makes that huge a difference. If you're comparing apples to oranges (like .25ACP vs. .45ACP) definitely yes, but between the more similar cartridges it's doubtful. Of far greater importance is the ability to shoot fast and accurately, and that's really where the small mini-autos are inferior compared to full-sized handguns. They're simply too small to easily hit moving targets while under stress.

Kel-Tec is the only thing keeping .380 ACP and .32 ACP on the map. :scrutiny:

I find it hard to trust the veracity of this. However, given some thought, there may be something to the argument. I don't think KelTec is making the cartridges better self defense rounds. They just make it easier to conceal a gun (#1 rule of a gunfight). I'm glad they're around, otherwise decent people with low incomes might not be able to afford a gun for self defense. I went a different route, though.

But back to the original post, which no one seems to be able to answer . . .

does anyone know of any actual shootings involving P-3ATs and the eventual outcome.

Here's plenty of stories of shootings with .380's that were ineffective. Don't know if any of them were using Kel-Tec.

Well, against advice from counsel, I've decided to comment on my P-3AT shooting incident. I put a Cor-Bon 90gr JHP into the upper spine at about 5 yds after the suspect soaked up a peripheral hit from a #7.5 12 gauge shell. The suspect immediately ceased all hostile activity, and was declared dead at the scene... of course the suspect was a medium-sized grey squirrel, age unknown...
I love my P-3AT, I carry it as backup off duty and a 3rd on duty, but fortunately haven't had cause to fire it at anything two-legged.

Leave the PPKs to fictional characters. Kel-Tec is the only thing keeping .380 ACP and .32 ACP on the map. If you're going to carry a gun bigger than a P-3AT, make it a 45.

Actually now that you mention it, I did both, this week!

not a P3AT... I didn't like that the slide doesn't lock back on it, so I got the P32 instead.
