I have been in my local Walmart several times the past few weeks looking to order a Savage 111 in .308, but the system keeps coming up with an error when we scan in the bar code for any Savage rifle, save the Axis variants. On the Walmart website, they only show Axis variants so that makes me wonder if they are going to quit carrying them.

I sent an email to Walmart and have yet to receive a response so I thought I'd ask if any of you all have heard anything about this.

Wallmarts and Savage

I have seen the same thing here in ohio , isnt there a FFL in your area if so just buy direct and have it shipped to your FFL . ;)

The 308 will be a model 11. The 111 is long action. That might be the cause of confusion.

I am always leary of buying online, sight unseen. Buds and Grabagun have the lowest prices I've seen for $395 then $30 FFL fee will make it $425, but if Walmart was just a little more to inspect in person, I'd like to go that route.

Nah, that's not the problem. I just hit 1 too many times in my typing. I found the model I want in the catalog, but when we scan the bar code next to it, the error is the result.

Sometimes Walmart's wholesale source is limited as to what guns from certain brands they can buy. I was trying t get a Savage 25-06 from there and they couldn't get the model that Savage manufactured then. Now Savage doesn't offer a 25-06 with a heavy barrel unless you order it from the custom shop.

I am willing to bet that if the firearm is "out of stock" (Not in a WM store or warehouse presently) then they can't buy it either at this point and therefore the transaction to transfer it to your store can not be completed. When supplies come back (and WM buys a metric ton of them in advance at their negotiated cheapened low price) you will be able to buy them from your store. Otherwise you will be buying it from someone that has one in stock. FWIW the firearms that Buds sells are as new unless stated and any problems are between you and Savage if you buy that particular brand. I have had Buds sell me several firearms with zero problems. YMMV
