So I have a Mossberg 590A1 that makes my heart warm and fuzzy every time I think about it. I've done some toying with it and it's sporting a Surefire forend, sidesaddle, and aftermarket stock. The problem I'm having is trying to figure out the best way to mount a sling. I'm wanting something that won't block the light also. Any ideas would be helpful.

A magazine spring from Wolff or some other quality aftermarket source, maybe along with an aftermarket mag follower like the Vang stainless or the Nordic teflon coated one.

What's the intended use of the shotgun?

The best sling for long walks is not the best one for wearing while in a vehicle. The best sling for a breach gun is not necessarily ideal for home defense. Hunting's another topic altogether...

Need more info if you want a recommendation.

That would be the one I'm looking for here. This is why I haven't gone with the single point option. Sorry for not clarifying.

Chevelle, sasquatches cry when they hear I'm coming to town. ;-)

You could look at sling mounts that mount to the mag tube,
Perfect mossberg with a pistol grip rear stock does not really compute in my mind...

Which are the best quality? The 590A1 is a heavy gun so I need something that will not fall off through heavy use. Also the barrel is thicker than standard so it has to fit properly.

As opposed toooooo????

I use the standard USGI two point 1.25" nylon sling. The rear is easy. The front is what is complicated. I found a sling adaptor that goes between the magazine tube and the magazine screw cap. It puts the front sling to the left side but it still can block the light some.

Nice set up. The only disadvantage of the pistol grip is that in order to disengage the tang safety you will need to break you firing grip.

True but lots of practice has made that transition pretty quick. Thanks for the input...I'll take a look at the sling. Surefire really needs to have a remedy for this.

I agree. It's a subtle point. The light and sling situation is a bit frustrating. Having said that, you can still see very well even with the sling blocking part of the light. One solution would be to go to a single point sling but I've tried it and don't care for it myself. Mesa tactical has some nice stuff for this.

Do you think Mesa's push button mount will force me to remove the side saddle?

This wasn't available last time I checked but it would be my preference. I bought one previously but the thing wouldn't fit. It said it was for the Mossberg 500/590 models but didn't work on mine. Maybe I'll give this a try. Still need a solution for the barrel mount though.

I recently solved a similar problem this way:

I got both mounts and the universal sling. As you can see, the sling lays more or less parallel with the barrel, instead of at an angle as it would if the rear point was on the stock. When worn, tension on the sling keeps it up and out of the way of the action and the Surefire light. It might not play nice with your sidesaddle, but you could probably work something out.

I haven't taken it on any long walks yet, but it's pretty comfortable around the house. ;)

Have you tried a regular style butt stock on a Mossberg?
I find the action release and safety work better with a regular stock.... I like pistol grips but I use them on 870's.

I'm using a barrel clamp to hold my tac-light and it has a sling mount built in. That has the sling connection beside the light and out of the way. Regardless of what you decide to do, I approve of adding a sling because it's the equivalent of a holster for a shotgun.

Yes but the LOP was a bit much for me. I've trained quite a bit with the setup I have and wouldn't change it. Are the safety's on the 870's ambidextrous?

I think candewman can set you up with some 590 A1 goodness....

Awesome awesome awesome! You're my new best friend.

They are a crossbolt safety, you push it one way to make it safe and then the other to make it fire.
It can be reversed or a lefty can adapt to pushing it to fire with the thumb instead of the finger.

No 870's in your neighborhood?

I can't quite tell from the picture if you have the same model but Mesa makes a side shell carrier with sling attachments. Ideal for a 1 pt. which is handy for HD
