I was just wondering if any of you people who carry have ever been caught out.

What I mean is, say your sitting down in a restaurant, you lean across the table for the salt and your shirt rides over the top of your holster in your back and exposes your gun. Someone sees you have a gun and calls the police.

Has anyone had a situation where your concealed weapon momentarily became exposed and someone seen it and called the police ?

Nope. But here's a BIG key-

When that happens, and it will, eventually: Just cover it back up and go about your business. If YOU act like there's something wrong with carrying your gun, others will assume the same.

I've had a shirt ride up a few times, recieved a few funny looks, and was watched closely for a few minutes just about every time. But because I acted like the gun belonged there, others figured it that way too.

Almost, on Burbon Street. Classis jacket rode too far up problem. The owner of the shop starts asking me if Im a cop. I say no. He askes about the gun so I apologoze, show him my permit. I figure everything is fine.

The owner was so drunk he couldn't make up his mind if he wanted to call a cop or not. Never been one to run from the law, I decided if he was gonna call a cop, fine, I'll just take my lumps and see how it goes. Then the owner says not to worry and just pay for my stuff and get out. Then its, no, just get out. Then its don't go anywhere, I want to get a cop. Over and over and over. He could barly keep on his feet, he was so loaded.

After about 5 minutes I'd had enough. I just walked out and disappeared into the crowd.

yup, one time 30 years ago after we got through hunting , we made a stop.
That's when a friend of mine had it fall from his belt, and it just happened a couple good Ole boys were trying to start some crap, at the time. my buddy got up from his chair. His 38 snub slide out from under his pant leg and went "clunk" on the wooden floor.

Everyone just stared at it, LOL
Then my other friend said , " hey chunnie, you dropped your gun."

He quickly reached down and picked it up, sticking it in his pocket.; saying , "Yea, it's loaded too."

there was Silence after that.....

No, but I did have one comical event at a restaurant.

My wife and I were eatting supper, and I was wearing a square-tailed shirt over my 1911 and magazines. We were sitting in a booth. When I stood to put on my jacket, my wife looked over and noted that my shirt had ridden up and had become snagged on the magazines. The shirt's tail was stuck between my body and the magazines. Needless to say I could neither see nor feel it.

She looked at me and said, "Honey, your magazines are showing".

I didn't hear her, and so she repeated it. I looked to the side and everything looked normal.

She said, "No, in the rear....just a minute" and come over and correct it.

Nothing like the Mrs. dressing her husband in public.

The folks who were sitting at the table near us did not even flinch. I made apology and they simply smiled and said, "No problem at all."

By and large, Michigan is not a bad state. It is surprizing that Michiganders typically support the liberal candidate, but they are quick, and I mean quick to defend "other people" who choose to carry whether they do or not. Of course we do have people who do not respect that fact too.

No, never, but I'm pretty sure I accidentally flashed the cashier at the convenience store once while pulling my wallet out. I was wondering why he all the sudden looked nervous and wide-eyed. I didn't realize until I was driving away what happened.

No, not yet. I carry in a vertical shoulder rig, preferably under a buttoned & tucked shirt. Would take quite a 'wardrobe malfunction' to flash the gun.

Ony had one experience so far. I was helping my friend load his boat back up on the trailer after a day of fishing when I went to crank the boat up and noticed my shirt had got caught on the handle of my 1911. Their were two couples sitting on a bench facing directly towards me and I glanced at them and covered the 1911 up. I saw all four of them staring at me with a blank looks on their faces, but eventually went back to mind their business.

never had the cops called, but went to a favorite resteraunt witht he wife where the local LE's eat on their lunch. i walk in and let my wife sit down first then walk to the other side of the table to sit acrost from her.

not thinking i took off my coat and put it over the back of the chair and sat down, my shirt had rode up in my coat from driving and was showing my .357 snubbie to the cops behind us.

i saw the look on their faces in the mirror infront of me. showed them my permit and they ended up joining us for lunch sharing stories. bunch of great guys/gals.

i ended up catch one of their wifes as she stood to leave wither her glock 26 in SOB showing. i mentsioned it and the officer said i had better noticed the glock and not something else. we had a laugh and they left.

Not exactly, but have had a couple of occurrences.

First one was about 10 years ago(jeez I feel old now). Me and friend had been out dove hunting all day. It so happened that he kept a lot of his guns in his truck. I had my shotgun as well as an sks. In the field I was also carrying one of his pistols(I was too young at the time).

Anyways, he had probably 25-30 guns in the truck. Mostly EBR's and wood clad variants. We were headed back to his house to clean the dove up and start grilling and I reckon he was a little anxious and got pulled over.

The truck had shotgun shells rolling around under my feet, guns piled up in the backseat, 3 or 4 guns in the front seat, magazines strewn about.

The truck was also stereotypical redneck, big mud tires, loud exhaust, rebel flag sticker on the window.

The officers walked up to the window on the drivers side, shined the flashlight in, then said " Ya'll boys have a nice night"

Second time was just a few months ago, maybe a year. Another friend of mine and I had been out running traps. His long gun of preference when running traps is a RRA Ar-15 type rifle and mine varies. This particular day it was a WASR 10 Aklone. Sidearms were RRA 1911 and a RIA 1911 as well as a Single Six.

We'd ran the hogs and were headed back to his house(aka 'processing plant') to clean 'em up. We pulled into the gas station to fill up the atv's and the truck and get some cold drinks.

We were there for about 15 minutes or so(cold drinks turned into Subway) and two Sheriff's deputies showed up and pulled up in front of my truck. Didn't think too much about it, they're are a couple of Counties that run around that part of the county.

About 10 minutes later we were done eating and headed back out to the truck. The deputies got out of their cars and asked us what was in the truck?

OK, I'll play. I asked him what the problem was, they said they'd received a report of, wait for it

almost there

here it is

report of "terroristic activity"

After about 15 minutes of 'splaining ourselves and showing them the terroristic artillery they let us go.

I got a pretty nifty story out of it.

edit, I just realized the second story couldn't have been too long ago because I've only had the AK for a few months now

Not personaly, that i know of, but i did make a guy at wal mart once, looked like the outline of a kel tec printing through his rear jeans pocket, asked him politely if it was , he had a surprised look on his face and said yes it is, the thing is i used to carry my kel tec the same way, not anymore!

no but i used to play pool wit a guy who always carried with his shirt untucked, has some nice pieces. glock, 1911 and a shiny revolver were a few of the ones he "flashed"... caught a couple people giving him the eye. (he also was the owner and sometimes had some betting in the back room so...)

I doubt that someone would call the police. They would most likely assume you were LEO or something. Gangsters don't use holsters (for the most part).

I've only had one occurence.

This happened about two months ago. I was going to take a Greyhound from St. Petersburg to Tampa and then from Tampa to Orlando to visit some family. I went to the Greyhound station and picked up the tickets and hopped on the bus headed for Tampa.

So when we arrived in Tampa, I got off, grabbed my guitar case and carry on bag and went into the terminal to wait for the bus headed to Orlando.

I'm in line about 5 minutes when I notice a security guard (about five places in front of me in line) wanding people with a metal detector. Each time he asked them, "Do you have any knives or guns?" before actually using the metal detector.

Finally he got to me and asked me if I had any knives or guns or ammunition. I said yes, sir I do. He asked, "which?" I told him I had both. At this point he asked me where they were and I told him that my knife was in one pocket, a spare magazine was in the other pocket, and my gun was holstered. When he asked where the holster was, I told him it was in my waistband and he asked me to hand over the gun.

At this point I said, "I really don't feel comfortable doing that," and he told me that if I didn't give him the gun he was going to arrest me. I told him I had a license to carry, was aware of my rights and Florida law, and that the only way I could be arrested was if he asked me to leave and I refused.

Well, he asked me to leave so I did. I think I made the right decision by keeping my hand off my gun and leaving. I had to call someone to come pick me up, though, and they were upset.

Mine gets seen all the time, people call the police now and then, the police actually come almost never.

Sorta - I was Open Carryin' in an OC state. The police were friendly and polite and it took about 30 minutes to make things right.

@guitarg1985

Greyhound's policy (pdf) for weapons transport is much stricter than airlines.
Knives and firearms are forbidden for both carry on and checked. :banghead:

It's pretty ridiculous, but good to know ahead of time for those planning to travel Greyhound.

Nope, pulled over by an officer once. Declared I was carrying and showed them my DL and CHL. They gave me the ticket and thanked me for letting them know. They didn't even blink about it and were very polite. After I did tell the office though he mentioned that the police were heavy in the area today so watch my speed. I thanked him in return. And drove slowly to work...

Then the owner says not to worry and just pay for my stuff and get out. Then its, no, just get out. Then its don't go anywhere, I want to get a cop. Over and over and over. He could barly keep on his feet, he was so loaded.

Hmm, that is a whole side issue. Can a shop-owner legally detain you to call the cops after you show him your permit? :scrutiny: I don't think so. Sure this guy was drunk in your story (which is odd a proprietor would be drunk while running a store) but this would active an alarm in my head.

Overall someone said it best. If you accidently show (as long as aren't dressed like a thug), and you show no alarm and simply cover up, then most people probably assume you are an LEO, or (gasp) there may be members of the public who understand what CCW is.

Thanks, I didn't realize this until after the incident occured. I had carried on a Greyhound at least half a doze times before without incident. Perhaps this time I printed at the station or something. I got to thinking about it afterward, and I think what may have happened was someone may have seen me printing on the bus, and then told someone at the station when we we on layover.
