Just looking for peoples experiences when it comes to the durability of the Prostaff scopes. Obviously the optical clarity isn't the best, but they are also pretty cheap. I wondered how the durability is.

At least a thousand rounds of 308, I've fallen on it, it's been bounced around the bed of a truck....It's good to go. I have never had a problem out of it in the 6 years I've had it on my rifle

for hunting, or other activities other than precision long range shooting, they are fantastic. I had to vote "yes but it was my fault" because i scratched some lens coating off. They would have fixed it (at least they told me they would on the phone), but I didn't feel like taking it off of the rifle to send it in.

No failures with my Nikon Prostaffs, but I did have a problem with a Nikon Monarch. Somehow I managed to unscrew the whole adjustment turret while trying to get off the dust cover.

Nikon replaced the scope with a new one quickly and with no hassle. That's the kind of service I like, so I'm up to four or five Nikon's by now and will buy more as the need arises.

I own both a prostaff and a Monarch and both are very clear scopes and very durable. You cant beat them for the price thats for sure and are just as clear as more expensive leupolds. My friend recently had his monarchs end lens fall out but sent it back and Nikon just gave him a brand new scope no questions asked. Pretty good service if you ask me.

I don't mean to hijack and if this is out of line please delete, but does anyone know how Nikon handles refurbished scopes? In a catalog (natchez I believe) they have them at great prices but I'd rather not if there's no warranty behind it.

I have two factory refurb Nikon scopes and a pair of binoculars. It seems that if you're going to experience any problems with the device, you'll likely encounter them within the first 90 days (just IMHO). FWIW, I've had the refurbished binoculars for over a decade without any issues.

I personally LIKE buying refurbished products (gun stuff, laptops, networking gear, etc.). Aside from the monetary value, I have the sense that the products are double tested -- once at the factory-new production line, and a second time before it goes on refurb sale. Thus, it seems more likely that any QC issues (if any) that escaped the first time would be caught the second time around.

Also, every factory-refurbed product I've ever purchased has shown up literally pristine -- I would never have been able to tell it wasn't "New" except for a different packaging.

.

I put a big scratch on the adjustment cover that has the Prostaff logo on it, and Nikon sent me a replacement, and one of the plain black ones to boot.

I think the optics are superb for the money, and I have used Nikon products for years, and I have never had a problem with a Nikon product.

Never had any trouble with one, though I no longer own one (ended up giving it to a friend, who at least to the best of my knowledge is still using it with no ill-effects). Personally I would (and have) pay a little more for the Monarch...as the glass is much better (or swap brands and go with a Vortex Diamondback which is comparable in price).

:)

I have one Prostaff, and several Monarchs. No problems with any of the scopes. The Monarch line is fantastic btw.

I never had a lick of trouble in 2 years of hard hunting with a 2-7x32mm. I just upgraded to a Monarch UCC so I hope for more of the same.

Have Nikon ProStaffs on both of my main hunting rifles, love them. I cannot say anything bad about the glass either, crystal clear to my eyes, then again I have never owned a $2,500 scope either.

Well from the looks of things they are just plagued with problems. There has to be at least one person that hates them...this is unprecedented. :uhoh:

Only have one but it's been a dandy.
It's on a .22 so there are no recoil issues though.
My brother has one on his .30-06 and likes it just fine as well.

I've had one on my NRA Mini for a couple of years now......around 1500 rds and no problems. I've always heard that Mini-14s have a reputation as scope killers.........

I voted no as ive never had one fail. Ive owned a few of them and still have 2 the only negitive thing i can say is there low light performance is pretty dismall and for what you pay for one a redfield or bushenell 3200 will bring better optics to the table. Now that been said i think the prostaff is a better built scope then the redfield. If i had 150 bucks to spend on a scope id look at a 3200 or if i could find one in that price range a weaver.

Count me as another no.

This is unbelievable. Surely if you ask enough people someone has to have had a problem.
