Have you ever traded a gun without even firing it?

I am thinking of trading away the Sig 229 in .40S&W I just picked up. I bought this gun to help a friend out of financial jam for $500. Now I know that Sigs are a quality firearm, but I do not like them. I hate their triggers which I feel are mushy. So my FFL loves Sigs and wants this 229. He is willing to trade me for whatever I want (with in reason of course). So he is willing to trade me for a NIB S&W 686

Should I trade? a new gun for a used one sounds like a good deal to me. What do you guys think. I really like this Smith, and since I sold my GP100 I am really wanting another wheelgun. Thanks for the advice.

Yep
More than once.
Bought a "parcel" from estate sales, "I take the whole lot" from folks in need of money ( divorce, whatever), or garage sales "Got any guns.Okay how about this for the whole lot and the dresser".

Kept what I wanted and horsetraded /sold what I didn't.

Go for it!

The only time I have done it personally was I traded a gun won at a match for another one that I really wanted, never shot the first one.

Had a baby Eagle in 45 and a Para Ordnance P-13 with nothing but problems with both and after several returns to the factory I finally got new replacements and didn't want to keep either after all the problems before. Soured me on both.

I traded a Springfield Mil-Spec after 7 rounds, because if I fired any more I would have changed my mind and kept it then and there. Now, I;ll just buy one later, no rush.

I have bought traded or sold quite a few without ever firing a shot.

Yup. I'm always on the lookout for bargans, and have bought several guns that I've had no interest in, just because I knew they were undervalued.

Make for good gun show trading material.

Yes, found one I wanted more or liked more and traded before I got it to the range.

Funny you mentioned about your P229. I bought a P229 .357sig Combo (came with an extra .40s&w barrel) $1350.00. NEVER SHOT IT! I traded it in for a Beretta 96 (.40) SS.

I wish I would have kept it (sob-sob):(

oh..few times...mostly because after i got it home to clean it,I noticed something that I just didnt like that I hadnt noticed when I bought it..yall have impulse buys.I bought an milled ak once that was brand new.I didnt check the bore as I should have- figuring what could possably be wrong..its brand new.anywho,i ran a few patches down it and checked it..the rifling was absolutly gone and heavily pitted in the last 2- 4 inches like it had been stored muzzled down in a pool of salt water...an it was chrome plated too.the rest of it was absolutly cherry.took it back and complaining got me nowhere so i traded it and lost 200 bucks over what i paid for it.another was a g3 copy that upon dissassembly..the rollers in the bolt were worn out and the receiver had hidden weld holes from the assembly process like someone had done a very poor job and just rewelded over them..these and all from defects I noticed that I just couldnt fix so I told the guy that took them in about them and lost.

Yes. On several occasions I've bought guns for "Trade Bait." I have a NIB SIG Pro 2340 .40S&W in my safe right now. I got what I consider a pretty fair deal on it ($395.00) so I'll be ready to trade if something catches my interest like another 1911.

I did. I picked up a Firestar plus and then I went to another gunshop, saw a Bulgarian AK clone (SLR), traded it,' went home happy. That was the shortest lived gun I had (30 minutes?).

YEs, a dan wesson stainless .357. Bought it for my then GF.
She thought it was too heavy. Traded it for a used Glock 19.

My current girlfriend likes my CZ83 better than the Taurus .357 snubby.
I don't much like revolvers. even the seven-shot kind. This gun will
probably go to get another CZ83.

I also have a unfired MAK-90 that I bought new for $400. Put a choate
dragunov stock on it. I was impressed with the Norinco SKS and other
guns from them. Just don't need my MAK 90 when I have my dream
7.62 x39 in a CZ 527 Carbine.

El cheapo romak and bulgie AK copies that have soft parts or
bad triggers keep the prices down on the Norcs. Mine will go
to a good home someday.

A .40 RAMI or a 527 Varmint looks good.

I have traded several firearms without ever shooting them. Rule of thumb....if it doesn't feel good in hand, it won't be any better while shooting. This is one of those constants in life.:)

No x2.

1. Never sold a gun that I have acquired.

2. Can't stand to own a gun I haven't fired. When a new gun shows up, it bugs me to no end until I can take it to the range. It's so bad that if I can't make it to the range in a reasonable amount of time, I've been known to go out in the back yard and blow a few holes in the ground. Perhaps I need psychological counseling. :)

Yes.

When Taurus replaced my broken 605 with a new one, I took it to one of my favorite gun shops and traded it for a new Smith 649, which turned out to be the most accurate snub I've ever owned,

John

Just a question--you mentioned that you wanted to help a friend out of a financial slump. Was he planning on buying this gun back from you?

If so, I'd recommend against it heavily. As for the getting rid of a personally un-shot firearm, I'd have to say no.
